Bit of a dilemma

Hello all, I have been reading these boards for close to a year and half (since I started playing) and have reached a problem that has me baffled. Hopefully someone here can shed some light on it. There is a ton of info all over the net to fix a swing, but I am not sure what to look for. The problem is, on my worst days I hook every club in my bag horribly, except the driver, which I slice horribly. This isnt a constant problem but if I get lax it is the mode I slip into.

My problem lies in this, I attempt to fix the slice on my driver and my other clubs (3W down to Lob Wedge) start hooking hard left. I attempt to fix that and driver starts to slice. I cant seem to find a solution to address both problems. I have began doing a few things diffrently lately, and they seem to be working a bit but I cant understand why the big diffrence between clubs. Hopefully someone here can shed some light on the subject. Im sure there are more questions you probably have about my swing so fire away and ill supply as much info as I can. Thanks in advance.

There are a couple of possibilities:
* You are changing your swing tempo with the driver to try to hit it farther. When all you really want to do it change a few simple things, and tempo is not one of them.
* Your shaft in the driver is much stiffer then your irons. Stiffer flexes cause slices and weaker flexes cause hooks.
* Your confidence in your swing with the driver is causing you to try to guide it through, when what you need is complete confidence to be able to let it go naturally.

I'm far from a professional so only take this as food for thought and may be way off base.

Do you have an out to in swing? The length of the driver gets you farther away from the ball. This may mean that you are less out to in with the longer club.

An out to in swing will give you a slice if the club face is open at impact. The correction with the driver may become an overcorrection with the shorter clubs where the out to in swing is more exaggerated because you have less room between you and the ball. Does this make sense?

I think Greg alludes to the problem - There could be something wrong with either the irons or driver in terms of being matched to your swing. The driver is really the best club to show where the clubface is pointing at impact because it has the least loft. The irons, particularly the short irons are good to show you the path of the swing because they have the most loft. Now with you, because the driver slices right, you would expect the lofted irons to tend to pull straight left. Because they hook though in your case, the club face has to be closed. I hope the above is clear.

In summary pick which which flight you like best (hook with irons or slice with driver) and go and see a pro who can hopefully give you a swing fitting and better match the clubs to your swing. I had a friend who couldn't keep his driver from banana slicing. He changed drivers and boom - every one down the middle without changing his swing!
