It's important to putt the way that's comfortable for you.
When I first started golfing, (apparently) I putted with an open stance, and pushed the ball.
Then, since I thought that this wasn't 'right', I tried different putting methods - with horrible results. Before changing, I was a fantastic putter. I could lag long ones close, and short ones were easy.
Once I made my change, I had to think through all my putting.
So after a year of putting badly, I went back to my 'natural' style - and my putts per round dropped dramatically, and my confidence went up again.
So, in a nutshell, you need to putt whichever way is most comfortable to you, that helps you sink the most putts.
