What is going on when your divots are way after the ball? I mean sometimes my divots don't start until 2 inches after the ball.

Re: divots after ball
Again if you look closely at the pros, i have and this was one of the things that i noticed that they do and this shows that you are striking the ball solid, after watching the pros ie monty and a like itry to emulate my divots a couple of inches after the but i just cant seem to do it?

Re: divots after ball
Hi Chad,
Whatever you are doing keep doing it.......................!!
If you are taking a divot after the ball then this is fine, if a gap starts to appear more than 2 inches then you will start to catch the ball thin (low on the face).
You should be hitting the ball very well so don't worry.
Ian.

Re: divots after ball
Thats what I am saying sometimes I do catch the ball thin when the divots are too far in front of the ball. The divots are not really deep and I am a 4.5 handicap but I was wondering what would cause the divots to be too far forward and when they are too far forward I do hit low thin shots.

Re: divots after ball
If you are a 4.5 handicap you will no doubt have a good swing. However if you are catching the ball thin then there are few areas to look at. If you are pulling the ball and the thinning then its pretty obvious that you have the ball too far forward in your stance. If you are pushing the ball and thinning then I would imagine you leg drive is getting you too far ahead of the ball at impact. I had been striking the ball badly for a few months and finally figured out that my posture was bad and i was reaching for ball. This was causing both thins and fats! This game ALWAYS comes down to fundamentals in the end.

1. where are you playing the ball in your stance, and have you checked yourself to see if it is where you think it is?
2. Do you sway on the downswing
i think both, or either one, could be a cause but we cant see your swing

Re: divots after ball
Chad do you have your swing somewhere i can view? be easier for me to diagnose then.
When you put the ball forward do you pull it but hit it solidly? (ie not too many thins?). If so then we have fixed one problem and found another - ie you swing slightly across the ball. I think the key is to find a position for your ball where you hit the ball solidly and work from there. In golf one fault always leads to another, so curing one invariable means there is another to cure!
If you can pop a video up great - i'd love to have a look. If not just do the old trick of getting a five iron and swinging without ball and note where you hit the ground and take a divot. Your ball position is just before the start of this divot. Let me know where that is and we'll start form there.
Hope that helps
