Does this mean that your hands are ahead of the of the ball, level with your left leg at address?

They will be slightly ahead yes. Depending on your ball position, the left leg will seem to be closer the more the ball is forward. The real key is that the left shoulder, arm and shaft are all one line.

To have that straight line you mention, my hands have to be way forward well past my left leg. This looks and feels very strange.

However using this setup I can use Greg Normans "The Secret" alot better. In fact it doesn't feel awkard at all. I have noticed that using this method my right hand keeps a angle througout the downswing and at impact.

Is this the correct way to swing a golf club ?

I'll try it next time I'm practising and see what happens ?
