  • Loop at top of back swing

As a junior I had a problem with alignment. I am a right hander and my alignment was right of target. This caused me to develop a loop at the top of my back swing, ie, out to in. This problem only came to light after returning to the beloved game after a lenghty break and having lessons.

My alignment is great now but more often than not I still have problems at the top of the back swing I am pulling a few.

My coach and I are working hard and have tried many keys/practice drills to fix this.

    What can you suggest?

    Cheers

    Hi VP,

If you are working with your coach, then you are better listening to him/her and working together on one or two drills at any one time.

For the swing fault you have described, my advice for a starting drill would be alignement and set-up, once everything is square then you have a chance of making a good swing.

Most swing faults start in the first two feet of the takeaway, a good drill would be: find a line on the ground, carpet at home or even draw one to the target at the range using chalk, take the club back for the first two feet only along this line, be careful not to make any effort to stay on the line after two feet.

    Hope this helps

    Ian.

Work on starting the swing with the lower body and see if that helps. Maybe a little hip bump.
