    help needed to get rid of revrse pivot

    Put a towel or something under your left foot (if you are right handed). Once you get to the top, have the feeling that you are pressing down whatever is under your foot at the start of the downswing and keep the pressure there through impact.

    Another cause of reverse pivot is too long of a backswing will pull your upper body forward, then on downswing its hard to transfer weight to forward foot because your are pulled by centrifugal force backwards (reverse pivot).

    If you are right handed (opposite for left) then you should feel nearly all your weight over your right leg (which the knee should remain flexed) at the top of the backswing- then a bump toward the forward leg will get the weight transferred over to the forward leg (left leg) to start the downswing.

    This takes some work, try doing it without hitting a ball and doing in slow motion to get the feeling of the proper weight shift.

      My two cents:

      - Avoid swaying your hips on the backswing.
      - Move your head some inches to the right ( right handed ) during the takeaway.

        Hi Bob,

        take your set up position, now take the club and put it across your chest, pointing at the target, turn into your backswing and make sure the club, 'still across your chest' is now parallal with your right foot.............this shows you have moved your weight correctly.

        Also make sure your right leg stays flexed in the backswing................a major cause of the reverse pivot.

          to add:
          Swing in front of a mirror. Check to make sure your left shoulder is above your right knee.
          Also create some width between your hands and your head. Not with a stiff left elbow, but with a slightly flexed left elbow. Stop your backswing at the point you feel they are farthest apart. If you try to overswing beyond this point, you can shift the weight back to your right foot.

            Some good suggestions Gents. Especially the head movement tip. This would help keep the hips and spine angle in position.

                  Another tip I could give you is to swing the club a little faster. By this mean I see so many people at the range where I practice have such a sloooooooooow backswing where they are trying to move the club back into all sorts of positions with only their hands/arms and invariably they end up not moving behind the ball

                  If you 'swing' the club back and aim for good extesnion/width ( just as you swing it forward on the downswing) ensuring you use a connected body and shoulders motion to do this, you'll find your weight will move onto your right side by momentum

                  How many pros do you see swing the club really slowly? Answer. None of them. Im not saying a lightning swing, just experimenting with a quicker tempo

                    Gents,

                    It's so hard to stop the hips swaying when you want to rip it? I have been working so hard on trying to keep them in position - but gee. I find it most difficult when I'm on the tee or have a longer iron in hand. Mid to short irons are fine.

                      Sounds like a classic case of 'reaching for the target'..........


                      I always tell my son, if there is any doubt in your mind that you cannot hit the ball past the flag, then take a bigger club.....but always swing the same, never go stretching yourself.........

                      If you run out of clubs then it time to lay up to a good distance to hit the flag next time.

                      Accept it...............whats the point in trying to hit a shorter club more distance when you have a bigger one in your bag.
