looking at video I realized that I loose my spine angle before the downswing. If I draw a line from my shoulders to my butt, right about when my hands turn chest high in the backswing, my butt starts pulling away from that line, going towards the ball side. is this a big problem, could this be the root of my lunge, my head moves toward the target when I swing. ? I would have to imagine it is why I look like I am standing almost straight up at impact. .

I sort of had this problem with the downswing. I noticed on video a couple of years ago that on longer clubs my head was lifting slightly near top of backswing and then on the downswing my head would lift further up, my spine would straighten and I would be standing up at impact...

I solved the problem by hitting lots of balls at a low speed then gradually accelerating until I reached full speed.

Tension was also a factor- discovered that grip was too tight which was making forearms and the rest of my upper body tight.

    Good luck with it!

My interpretation of this is that you are starting the downswing with your upper body. Try initiating the downswing with a slight hip bump towards the target not a body bump ie the whole body

shootin4par - i have had this problem and mine was caused by not resisting enough with my legs and turning my shoulders too far.

A great way of stopping lifting is to check your posture and really feel that your rear is sticking out and your spine is tilted forward. Then simply make sure you turn your shoulders perpendicular to the spine angle. I have seen Leadbetter do drills where he gets students to have rear end up against a chair and keep it touching the chair through the backswing.

One other key area to check is that you keep the bend in your back leg in the backswing and dont let it straighten. This is one of golfs absolute fundamentals IMO.

        good luck

last night the guy I am working with had me hit balls with balls under my toes. It seems I was standing on the balls of my feet too much instead of being balanced between balls and heels. went home and took practice swings in the mirror and looked at backswing plane while standing like before and also standing how he wants me to stand. If the weight is too far forward then it is necesarry to swing flat to counterbalance, if weight is where it is supposed to be then it is eaiser to be more upright.
