I live in West Texas, where it is possible to play year round golf. I usually quit from mid november to late Jan. I have started playing again this week and am encountering the same cycle that plagues me every year. Feb-May every struggle imaginable: pull hook, fanned iron, sh---, skied shots. June-Oct.....5 handicap golf. What is the problem? I even have a swing trainer I use in the off season. How can I end this cycle and be playing to my 5 early in the season?

Re: Off Season Struggles
Originally posted by jbrunkIt is possible, but we do have some cold months in Dec/Jan, plus everything is brown and rock hard, and just not as much fun.
Im in Ireland and we got wet and cold and wind from November - May and we play every week the course is open.
Sure its not ideal, but its beats the hell out of not playing.

Re: Off Season Struggles
If I was in your shoes, I would not take the two months off. But if you insists on having an "off season", then I would play 9 holes once a week to keep the swing fresh.
My personal beef with gimmic "swing trainers" is that they don't truely allow you to analyse the result of your swing (they may only show one part). When you see your ball flight you can tell (almost) without a doubt both clubhead path and angle at impact.
