Is the golf swing supposed to be the same for all clubs? if so when hitting a driver you are supposed to be sweeping the ball, when hitting a pitching wedge your supposed to come down on the ball, now this part confuses me the most im hitting down with my pitch wedge up to my 6 iron then the 5 and 4 are supposed to be a sweep so are the diffrent swings, also watching the pros hit 7 8 and 9 irons to the green a lot of players dont go to a full finish they stop way short with club high in front of them, aghh whats that all about ive been told not to stop goto full finish, and when you take away i gol low and slow and wide on driver but not the same on other higher clubs is this right

The swing is the same, but the angle or plane on which you swing becomes more upright as your clubs get shorter. The mechanics should remain constant.

ball position too. woods nearer leading foot (left foot for righties, right foot for lefties), and the arc of the swing should remain the same. as far as follow through, i think it depends on what you want, pulling a shot verses getting max distance.
if i got it wrong, some please advise!

I never have understood this - everyone`s driver swing is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to their wedge swing!

Are you talking about full swing wedge shots?

One difference is that with the driver you're always taking a full swing, but with the wedges you often are taking just a half swing, or doing something else, such as chipping. I don't think anyone claims that swinging the driver and chipping are the same.

As others have pointed out, the ball position for a full swing wedge shot will be different. The shorter club length will require a difference in posture. The change in ball position entails that impact occurs earlier in the swing arc. But the way you actually move the club should be the same, as far as I can tell.

I have the same swing thoughts for both my irons and woods, except like you said you want more of a sweeping motion with your driver and you want to hit down and through on your irons..... Also I tend to keep more weight on my back foot at setup and angle my spine away from the target with my driver... and obviously your stance (distance from ball, ball position) will be different like previous posts stated.

The basic swing mechanics have to be the same; it's just far too hard to train the body to swing differently with short irons, mid irons, long irons and driver. However, the swing will adjust depending on how you set up to the ball which is why you do need to work on individual address positions for different clubs, different lies and different types of shot. I think my swing is pretty sound but I've seen a lot of improvement when I concentrate on a good set-up...and vice-versa when I get lazy.
