  • picking the club up too early.....

if i set my wrist early i usally get a good hit but that means i pick up the club too early and results in a slice or a fat shot from a 5i to the driver. is there any drills or tips you could give me that i could use to set the wrist earlyer but not pick up the club up to early??

curly - as a rule i never used to think of setting my wrists (brought up on Jack Nicklaus swing theories!). The modern trend is to set the wrists quite early and i have tried to do this in an effort to make my swing more compact. However when i set the wrists my swing goes to pieces and i cant time it at all. Where i have had success is folding my back arm's elbow (for me left as i am a leftie) in the backswing. This is easier for me to handle and automatically breaks the wrists. Also gets me into the slot at the top if i do it properly.

I find that if I make the effort to keep width in my swing the early wrist set is not a problem
The club gets up woo quickly if you also break the elbow with the wrists as this loses the width of the swing
