    Re: 7 iron

Thanks guys. You have all been very helpful with your comments! I know some of you have travelled the path before me and I really appreciate your pointing out the pitholes for my own travel

I am excited. Learning new things all the time, seeing improvements, and finding more room for improvement...

I would probably say, this recent addition of 20+ yds to my 7i probably comes more from learning about what to do at impact rather than any major changes in my swing. In fact, I have gone back to simplifying my swing and not worrying so much about each tiny technical detail. I think generally I lack the practice with the longer clubs, and the gap in distances compared to my 7i is probably because I am not hitting them sweetly.

You are right, 30yearlayoff. Even before I was going so much into the swing itself, I have been able to reach par 4s in around 3 strokes, usually with the 4W off the tee followed up a M4 (mid 3-4 hybrid) or 5i and then a short pitch/chip. I am really trying to get 200m (220yd) with my driver so that I can at least try to get some GIR

I like the idea of the forward swing. In fact that's what I just picked up from AJ's Truth About Golf videos, and I am eager to try that out. I feel that this "hitting down" on the ball is really screwing up my perceptions Besides going out to get Manuel De Le Torre's book, is there anywhere on the net I could get some immediate resources?

I do appreciate all your continuing guidance. I guess I will be practising more with the 5i now, until I get get my target 165yd with it. And I will definitely try to play on the course more

      Have a look here. http://manueldelatorregolf.com/golf_swing_QA.html

I have to say that personally I think you are now on the right track if you have come to the conclusion that its time to forget mechanics for a while and concentrate on a full swinging motion and grooving your own rythmn and timing. My bet is your game will really come on now esp. on the course

      Good luck!

Thanks pnearn! I started on lessons with a new pro, and I guess that helps. Not so much worrying about minor details but working more on the major stuff like using the hips to generate more power etc. I guess I will just leave the pace to my pro and just concentrate on working on the changes that I need to work on with each lesson
