Sup guys, Its pretty cold and gloomy here in Toronto, Ontario, but its alot warmer than it should be throughout the winter. This warm weather has allowed for me to hit this outdoor range with heated panels above us. Anyways, I see myself as the most inconsistant player on the face of the earth. My ball striking is what kills me, not my length or even my accuracy. I seem to be catching the ball fat, that is when I play my more than slight draw. Over these training couple of months I've learned how to play a fade, and today I was at the range, hitting my draw, and whatta you know, Im hitting them chunky. I then attempted to play my control fade and it was PURE! Like, I really am starting to come together in terms of controlling my shots and how I shape them...especially with this fade. The problem for my huge ego is that I lose about 5-8 yards with my irons (btw, I play a draw withmy driver, no doubt). Based on the fact that Im hitting my draw shot fat for some reason more than 60% of the time, should I switch my 200 yards and in shots to a control fade and then with my woods play a draw? Do any of you do this?

Re: Can you guys help me with my Dilemna (Draw or Fade)?
You're not losing distance on the fade against the draw as you say you're hitting the draw fat and must therefore be losing a huge amount of distance. Take an extra club and play the fade. I play with a guy who hits the ball a mile with his irons; on some par 3s I might take two clubs more than he does but what counts at the end of the day is what score you shoot not what clubs you use. There are no prizes for who hit the longest 7-iron and what's better for the ego than winning the match?
As for hitting the driver with a draw and irons with a fade; why not? If your swing is well grooved enough to do it consistently then it's an excellent combination of distance on the drivers and control with the irons.

If you are hitting fat (striking big ball before little ball) then you are probably keeping to much weight on your back foot. This shows up more with the draw than the fade.
With the fade the club face is a liitle more open and the bounce comes in to play allowing the club to slide over the ground more.
