  • Leadbetter Interactive DVD Series

I skeptically bought this DVD program, knowing I could return it. I've never been so angry after a purchase of a product. Why, you might ask??? Read on!

The anger from the program wasn't because of the program itself. It's that it made me so mad at my golf Instructor, I wanted to spit nails.

I think Leadbetter either purchased, or definitely teamed up with the V1 folks and changed V1 Golf into a much slicker production. The improvement is actually better, not just slicker.

The DVD set is a 4 DVD set. The first 3 are all instructional and cover most aspects of the swing. The 4th DVD allows you to use video of your swing and go through a step by step, from setup, takeaway, backswing, downswing, and follow-thru...and compare it to Chas Howe III for correctness and a model showing what it looks like wrong.

I've been taking monthly lessons since starting back playing in July 05. Over the last 7-8 months, I have been terribly inconsistent. I have progressed to hitting more and more beautiful shots but....still falling apart to where I can't even hit the ball sometimes.

So, back I go to my local instructor and he gets me in a grove by hitting tons of range balls until I get it right. Off I go to feeling really confident, play a half of a round or a round pretty solid and then wham...back to the struggles.

I have called around to a ton of instructors in my area and none of them use video for instruction. Why, so they can keep getting idiots like me to continually spend $50.00 per hour getting nowhere fast.

Once I video taped myself, I was amazed...just how good my swing was over all but....a few points that were terrible that we've never worked on. These areas were the root of my struggles.

The 4th DVD not only identifies your faults very accurately, it then chooses a set of drills that Ledbetter walks you through to help in each area.

For 99.00, and free shipping....I've found this is one of the true bargains in all the play better golf **** I have seen.

This program was such a help and delight, I started boiling thinking of the how much I've spent on lessons vs. this program. Yes, I think my instructor would eventually get me there.....a couple thousand later. But, I guess I'll never know. I won't be going back!

If you are taking lessons and struggling...and your instructor is not using video....CAN THEM FAST! It is easy to video yourself and use a program like Leadbetter Inteactive or a site like this to help you accelerate your improvement. You have to see yourself!!!!!

As a follow-up....I bought this program over 2 months ago...when it first came out. At that time, I was looking at V1, Cswing, etc....so I could video tape myself and get someone here to take a look at imy swing faults. For some reason, I couldn't get motivated to do the filming (felt a little funny dragging the video stuff to the range and swringing in front of a camera). I saw the commercial on the Leadbetter product and thought....my kids would benefit from it. I watched the first 3 DVDs and found them helpful, nicely produced, but....just more information. However, it was frustration over my latest collaspe that caused me to get my butt out there and film myself. Before uploading the file here, I thought I'd see how the 4th Leadbetter DVD worked and ended up spendng 6-7 hours on it. I was addicted. SEEING IS BELIEVING!

I now have a series of drills that I can fire up and go through...in my living room, den, office, or bedroom. I can slap another video of myself on there to see if there is improvement.

I got the most benefit from this program by not looking at one swing. I filmed 4 swings with my driver both downline and face on. I did the same thing with a 7 iron. So, when the program asked, does your take away look like this, I would run through all 8 views of my swing (either downline or face on)to see if the error was there in any of them. The program made this very easy to do. You don't have to be a video nut to work this program. A simple video camera (mini dv is best), a firewire cable and a PC w/DVD player is all that is necessary.

I'll stop my rambling now. In case anyone thinks I'm associated with this product, I'm not. (you can do a search on my previous postings to see my frustrations) Just thrilled to find something so beneficial at such a great value. I didn't find anything I didn't like about this product. It even tells you how to video tape yourself for best results.

Now, off to scalp my stuck in the past instuctor.

thats really interesting. I have just managed to tape my swing again as my mate lent me his camera. For first time i was able to get my swing into V1. It really is the best tool you can have if you know a bit about the swing. I am now going to try and get camera for myself. I reckon a month or two at the range with the camera should see me iron out my swing. Will look out for the leadbetter dvd - i have all his books and think he is best coach out there.

          Re: Leadbetter Interactive DVD Series

I have the V1 golf also. I think it is a great tool. When I go for the video taping, I don't go to the driving range. I go to the local ball park. I set up and hit some balls to the center of the baseball diamond. This way, there's no pressure or embarassement at the driving range. I know, using this method, you can't use the driver, but I think you can see enough of your swing to analyze it.

My second comments is directing to coaching. I have had several lessons. Everybody's advice is always "go take a lesson". My experience is just what was described above. It might be helpful for the short term but in the final analysis, you have to do it yourself. Don't rely on someone to do all your thinking for you, think it out yourself. Then when things start to go awry, you have an idea where to start and how to fix it. It's not the easiest way, but it's the best....

          My two cents worth...

Well, I went back to range today all confident with the changes. Guess what....I couldn't hit is 10% as well as yesterday. However, I have the video to help me with what I was doing wrong. Looking at it, I was just over-compensating and trying to get used to some changes.

The great thing I think was mentioned above. A month or two from now, I should have something ironed out and ...have a record of the changes that took place bad and good.

I would love to upload some videos here for comment. How do I do it????

              Re: Leadbetter Interactive DVD Series

I too ordered the series but have to say I returned it.

It did have its good points no doubt. Outside of golf... it is filmed in high definition. I have a large screen dlp and the instruction is incredible in how it looks. The sound is also "state of the art".

Heres the deal. I believe very strongly that filming yourself is HUGE. The problem lies in trying to diagnose what your problems are and what you are trying to accomplish. I have Jim McCleans 8 steps to a perfect swing on DVD. It is very detailed.

My problem with the leadbetter set is that after owning Jim McCleans 1 hour dvd that I figured having 4 of leadbetters dvds would be 4 times as much information.

              It doesn't in my opinion.

Leadbetter is much much better on graphics, sound etc And is just (in my opinion) as good in its instruction of the swing. Its just that the same amount of information is spread out over 4 dvds instead of 1.

The video software is great. It however is really no different that the free version of V1 golf. The only advantage is that in leadbetters you can split the screen to compare yourself to a pro. In the free version of V1 you can't, any other version and you can.

Bottom line I returned the leadbetter series. Its not that something is wrong with it its just that when I need to look at something I have a question about I found myself digging for Mcleans video.

If you are really looking for something to help in video analysis then you need Jims 8 steps to a perfect swing. You can live without Leadbetters.

BTW the first time I went to the range with my video camera I felt a little odd. That is untill other guys starting coming up to me and asking about software and hints on using video analysis. A week later 2 other guys were using them!

I'm a big believer of videoing your own swing and looking at it. I think its the only way to really see what you are actually doing. Obviously, its important too to get a good teacher who can show it to you and point out your mistakes and how you should correct it.

Does the 8 step dvd have the ability to break down your videos? Like I said, I had the Leadbetter series for 2 months. Watched it, forgot about it (my kids were using it), until I got the video camera out. The 4th DVD is worth $100 by itself.

You are right about the first 3. There is a lot of good info in them but it is info you can in a lot of places.

                    Re: Leadbetter Interactive DVD Series

If your filming yourself I am not even sure you need rely on a dvd - what i have is my video then several swing sequences from players with a similar height and bodyframe - mine even includes Michelle wie

The from down the line and above i compare where we are at certain points in the swing.

Even a money can then see obvious flaws / differences.

I think the trick is not to try and copy them exactly - they are trained every day and work out etc so your once / twice a week payer is never going to get in the same positions as the pros.

When you have 1/2 with a pro, you forget within 2 days what he said (as in muscle memory) I now take my video camera up every time I hit balls which will hopefully stop me from getting back into bad habits.

I plan on doing this until late spring when i will then stop with swing mechanics and only check myself once a month or two.

I am also sending my swing file for analysis via VH1 - so if anyone does ask what i am doing with a video, I just say i have to record myself so I can send it to my instructor in Palm Springs or wherever it may be!!

I have Claude Harmon up in Scotland due to analyse mine so hopefully he will sort me out!

                            Hey Nemo,

You are swinging way inside. If you try to focus on swinging "down the line" you will hit a lot better shot. As a check, are you pulling a lot of shots left? IF you are, you should try to keep the club more on the target line.

                            Chessbum....

Another option to host video is using Google Video. http://video.google.com

It's easy to use, upload and free hosting. But it take days to approve.
