  • Right arm angle photo

this is very frustrating - my right forearm angle is very straight at the top of my swing it points pretty much straight down. Most normal people & pros seem to be angled - pretty much the same angle as their backs.

Also a lot further from my head than 'normal swings'

I can't for the life of me figure out how this is possible - it's as if my right arm is longer than my left

I have practiced in front of mirrors etc and can't seem to get my arm in this position without bending my left arm considerably.

I am obviously doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what!!

    Arggghhh!

    look at those photos again
notice where your left hand is in relation to your foot, or shoulder, notice where the pros is, you get too deep in the backswing, need to keep your hands more in front of your chest.

As in not swing my arms to far back?

technicly speaking, you are not pushing them too far back, you are letting them come too much around

I think one thing that is making your hands coming too far inside is the way your hands are working during your backswing. Your position at the top shows that your left wrist is quite bowed and that you are quite laid off with the clubface pointing straight up to the sky.
          .
Perhaps you can try these things:

          1) At setup, try cocking your wrists up and down. Your club should really just move up and down with it. Your backswing should be the same. Your hands and wrists shouldnt move in any other directions. When you do try this, you probably feel strange and like as if you are severely keeping your wrists cocked. This will actually help you keep your hands in front of the body somewhat and control the proper movement of your wrists.

          2) In addition to that, try keeping your elbows and forearms together through out backswing more.

Try that and see how it goes. Hopefully it will help you what you are trying to achieve. Although, I probably think that you are hitting pretty decently already.

You have what is called a shut club face at the top.
Your grip is probably to strong.
A old tip is to pretend you are holding a tray at the top of your backswing
this helps people that are the oppisite of you, people with a open face at the top.
Maybe you should pretend you are dumping the tray?
Trevino had a shut face and played pretty well what are your results?

nemofishy - I think the others have hit the nail on the head here. I think its also worth checking your adress position - if you are standing too far away from the ball you will tend to swing flat and deep - which is what your top of swing position shows us. I think basically if you could swing just a bit more upright you would see you elbow in the more accepted position.

              Good luck - nick
