Sorry to have to put you to work But I like the insight you provide and it does give some food for thought. Cheers.

Nick, there is no right or wrongs as far as im concerned. NO-ONE swings the club the same way period. You have to learn by FEEL what works best for you. I like to swing with my eyes closed a lot and try and get the sensation of feeling the clubhead as it travels in the circle

One thing I also try and do is match my circle in the last half of the downswing and the first half of the followthrough

I get into a lot of trouble when I start thinking about 'extending down the target line' or 'drop into the slot'. For me its all about the clubhead going in a circle around my body and for some that would 'feel' like an over the top move or a flat backswing

This gives me much more a rotational element to my swing. The key for me is making sure the butt of the club facs my belt buckle during the first half of the backswing and keeping my hands and the clubhead in front of me. Thus a nice wide circle which obviously flattens later in the backswing as it goes more around than straight up
I can see what you are saying. For me personally I like the club right in the bmiddle of the swing plane and if anything a little more outside if anything. Again it always seems to each is own, I think the accuracy of what you try to do is the true key.

I went thru something similar very recently. I was a reasonably long driver, around 260 metres on a good day then all of a sudden I started getting ragged and soon after got a very big slice.

I can tell you that it nearly sent me nuts trying to work out what the hell was going on. Eventually I found that I was not extending my arms down the line of flight but instead pulling up after impact. I don't know that this is your problem but you never know!!!

          Regards from Australia

I worked out what it was..

Over the last few months I have lost weight and toned my upper body just from playing golf, therefore I have actually gained speed in my swing without even knowing it, and because I have a regular flex shaft in my driving I was actually hitting it to hard. So all I have to do is slow my swing down a bit and it's all good..
