I've seen people with hands at the ear level, and some with hands way over their heads at the top of their backswing. Would a 1PS or a 2PS swing affect that, and also depending on which club you are swinging?

Re: How high are your hands?
Personally I like to have width in my backswing and I try to have my hands to the right of my head and extended such that they are level with the top of my ears (Hogan). Any higher for me and my right arm and my pivot breaks down (overswing)
This gives me a shallower arc on the downswing which I need for the plane I swing on

Re: How high are your hands?
Hi pnearn,
I've gone through quite a few of your posts and it seems like you have a one plane swing, please correct me if I'm wrong. I think I started out naturally as a 2PS but took some lessons on the 1PS so now I'm kinda mixed up and trying to rectify that. I have been trying to keep my backswing on the inside, keep my hand low, but now I am wondering if those are the pointers I picked up during my brief attempt at the 1PS. So now I am reverting back to my more comfortable 2PS, should I stop worrying and go back to taking it straight and back and raising the arms high?

Re: How high are your hands?
Simon
Right now i continue to flirt between a 1PS and 2PS but I think im more comfortable with the 1PS as for me it's much easier for me to keep on plane on the backswing and forward swing
If you let you body turn the club back in that wide circle and then use it to tuen back through again, that is 1PS as there is no conscious lifting of the arms in the backswing or dropping of the arms in the downswing which I find difficult to time on a consistent basis (I seem to git the ball great with a 2PS for a while and then start having timing issues). A 1PS will naturally be a flatter swing
I would suggest doing what you feel most comfortable with. If thats a 2PS with a steeper plane and more use of the hands/arms in the downswing than go with it
Personally I am finding out I hit it further and straighter with the 1PS but they feel very different as one is much more circular than the other. It is this circular swing that I am grooving in right now before the summer

Re: How high are your hands?
One more thing Simon, it's crucial that when you switch between the 2 methods that you setup correctly. You'll struggle to hit the ball well if say have a 2PS set up and then a 1PS swing plane. And the setups do feel very different at address (i.e. much further from the ball and more bent from the hips in a 1PS)

Re: How high are your hands?
Thanks pnearn. Unfortunately that article does not have comparisons for positions at the top (or is it supposed to be the same that's why there are no pics on that?). I am still trying to figure out how high the hands should be for a 2PS. I've seen as low as the ears and as high as way above the head...
