  • Hooking Tee shots

I've been playing golf for over twenty years and have always hit straight tee shots - this year I'm having a hard time finding a fairway and I have also lost distance. Most of the time I am hooking off the tee (other times I appear to get 'Stuck' and push the ball right). The hooks are generally hard left. Friends say I am bringing the club on the inside - I try to correct the backswing but I end up doing the same thing over again. I am short and am using an additional 1.5 inches on my driver. Could I be trying too hard.

Your hands are. If you are taking the club to the inside, then you are taking the club back first with the hands. That would explain the hooks too. You are using them too much on the through swing.

Work on the takeaway being a very simple shoulder turn only, until the club gets parallel to the ground. Then let the arms and hands go.

I bet this will help in both distance and accuracy.
