  • straight left leg?

Hi! I'd like to ask you about the correct left /front/ foot- leg action through down swing from begining to finish. At address stance are both legs flexed, at the top of backswing the right foot -leg is in the same position, but what does the left leg? how to begin the down swing and correct weight shift with left leg? I have read many times that downswing starts by rotating hips and shifting weight from back to front., but how to do that when my leg is flexed more than right and is quite loosen. Is the left leg straight at the impact, i only now that at the finish it is. So please tell me what does the left leg do through back and down swing? thanks a lot!

    Re: straight left leg?

You do rotate the hips back slightly. So the left leg will roll back slightly too...not much though. As you transition from the top to begin the downswing, your weight will move forward slightly. Your left leg will begin to straighten, but not to completly straight. It will be flexed until 1/2 through the followthrough after impact.

But all this you should not "try" to do. It comes naturally if you are doing 2 things:

    1) Trying to stay balanced...almost 50/50 throughout the swing. Seems counterintuitive, but when you walk, you are trying to go in a straight line and you think, "Balanced". Your center is what is balanaced. The legs that support the movement take on the rolls of transfer of the weight. You don't really think, "Place weight on right leg...rotate hip and swing arm...swing left leg forward...place weight on left leg...swing hip and arms...etc". You just think, "Please stay balanced as I walk". The swing is the same thing...don't think about it.

    2) From the top, rotating you lower body first, then your hips, torso, shoulders, arms and last hands release. This creates a "whip-affect" that swings the club with effortless power. Each part acting on the next one in the sequence creating momentum that is added to with the smaller movements. Add them all up, and you have a smooth effortless looking and feeling swing.

Hi! thanx lot for your advice! But I've got one more question: how to apply your walking excercise into normal golf swing? I don't really understand it much. Walking forward is something very different compared to golf swing which is from left side to right and with both feet on the ground. thank you

The walking drill is meant to isolate the feeling of balance in the swing. If you can do the walking drill smoothly, you get the feeling of a good easy transition and wright transfer. That is all it is meant to be.
