  • Help trouble shoot my swing, Video

    Hello,

You guys have been great help to me in the past and I am finding I need your assistance again. I have been having trouble with pulling the ball and not making solid contact. If you look at my face on swing you can see that I flip my wrists through impact and I am guessing this is why I have the pull. If you could critque my setup and overall swing I would greatly appepreciate it. Thank you for all of your help.

    Hi Bill,

From what I can see from the front shot it is really compact and a good swing, the only fault you have along with all but the expert pro is the early release of the hands/wrists into impact.

Note from the picture attached you have casted early, try Gregs right hand drill to help retain the wrist angle a little longer to increase power and a more crisp impact.

    Hope this helps

Re: Help trouble shoot my swing, Video

Thanks ofr the help Ian. I think the cause of the casting is not getting my right elbow in front of my right hip on the downswing. I have a video of my swing down the line that is "pending approval", hopeful that will be up soon so you can take a look at that view. I am starting to belive that my right elbow is not pointed to the ground enough at the top and this is making it hard for me to get my arms back. My swing feels very disconnected lately and I have a feeling the right elbow might have something to do with that, any thoughts on this? It is barely supposed to break 40 today in Chicago, I'll try to make it out for a quick bucket if the sun gets out.

      Thanks again for your help.

Here's a link of the down the line swing view. I think you may see what I mean by the right elbow getting too high.

Your swing looks a little upright. Try getting a little flater, that might help with the flying right elbow. Your swing has a nice tempo and a great little pause at the top. Nice job!

Thats a nice golf swing Bill.

Im gonna take a wild guess and say that you play a cut shot? (left to right). Maybe try getting a little more shoulder turn via. a flatter swing. Try swinging around your body not into it. What im saying is its quite up right, which favors a left to right shot, so if you want to add some distance then flatten it out and create more shoulder turn.

see what other says, but there appears to be a lack of hip roatation on the backswing. In fact your hips appear as if the are rotating TOWARDS the target on the backswing. your hips should rotate about 45 degree and your shoulder about 90 degress going back. you have a great follow though - well balanced. there is a breakdown of the left wrist at impact which can cause excess elevation on your shots which is probably related to improper backswing.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I actually struggles with too flat of a backswing last summer and over-compensated during all of the practice this winter. It is going to be warm in Chicago today so I'll get out and post some updated videos. I'll try to get a bit more hip turn and work on keeping the right elbow closer to my side for a flatter swing.

I am hoping by keeping the right elbow closer on the backswing I will be able to get it in front of my right hip on the downswing and not swat at the ball anymore.

Thanks again for all of the help.

The only (bad) thing that I would say is that you *seem* to swing across the ball a little, maybe try to swing out towards the target a bit more.

Other than that a great looking swing.

                    Hi Bill,

Great shot from behind, the clip doesn't play to well on my cswing system, however i can play it in slow motion one click at a time.

There a a couple of clear things, one you definatley play a fade, you stand about 3/4 inches to close to the ball at set up, notice how there is no daylight at all, Jim Furyk is the only exception to this rule.

Also you take the club away on the inside, notice when you hands reach waist height the clubhead is behind you, at this point it should be hiding your hands from view.

That said you do recover very well and as far as the downswing goes, it's like looking at a different swing the impact is perfect.

Just give your self a bit more room and work on the takeaway swing plane, you will notice the ball flight will change almost imeadiatley.

                    Great swing

                    Ian.

Re: Help trouble shoot my swing, Video

the main issue is at address. Your butt is in line with you heels. Need to tilt from the hips with butt sticking out over the heels. More of a proper address position should prevent the inside take away. If your upright, arms naturally swing inside the plane.

So you are saying that i am too flat on the backswing?

From down the line the impact looks good, but face on you can see that my hands have flipped. I think I need to get the right elbow more in front of the right hip, any thoughts on this. Maybe I need to slow down the hips on the downswing? Thanks for all of the help.

tilting from the hips with the butt out will allow you to address the ball with arms hanging straight down and give you more room for the right elbow onthe follow through. you should feel some tension in your lower back.

                              msklar,

I see what you are saying now. This may also prevent my right heel from rising so early in tmy downswing, right? I will give it a shot in the next day or two. Thanks for the help.

                              Dant,

To upload a video just sign in and go to the gallery. I use windows movie maker to crop the video down to the swing only and keep the size down. Otherwise, no special software needed.
