  • Grip Comparison

In trying to find out why my backswing is resticted (see previous thread and videos), i noticed that at address, I just bring my right hand into the club and grip it - My hand and my forearm are almost in line.

In looking at several pros who's swing are available on V1 Home, I notice that their right wrists are bent downwards at address . This would mean that the club must lie along the base of their fingers wheras is my case, the club must be at more of an angle the finger bases.

Could this be part of the reason that my wrists don't want to fully cock at the top of the swing (see videos in earlier thread 'Restricted Backswing" or in Gallery )

Well for starters, you are trying to compare yourself to langer from a different camera angle. Langer is from directly behind his right hip, you are viewing from behind the ball, different angle makes it look different. The club does run in the fingers of the right hand, from the first joint of the trigger finger to the base of the ring finger, this means it is at an angle. I suspect your wrist don't cock because your hands may be miss-matched, fighting each other. Rather then looking at the hands, try looking at the wrist instead, they should generally be at the same angle, so that braking them up would put the club on your right shoulder.

To give you an idea of what I am saying, standing straight up with your hands together flat (like you were clapping), see how both wrists are straight up/down, now if you break the wrist up, an imaginary club would hit you in the forehead. Turn both hands/wrist slightly to the right and it would land on the right shoulder. Gripping the club is the same, with the hands separated, right hand lower, but the wrist are in the same relationship as the hands drill.

      This is true.

But I have several other views and I think my right grip is a bit off. Tried using my "walmart" weighted club that has a formed grip, and it sets hands in proper position as you described. I was a bit off, but not that much, so perhaps the problem is elsewhere?

Maybe I should try taking club back more outside with less forward press.

      Thanks for the comments
