  • Spring Startup problems

I have been getting some shoulder rehabilitation, plus winter is suddenly at an end...so today I went to the range to get started again. No shoulder mobility problems or pain, but I was swinging as if I had never seen a golf club before!
I thought I should start with simple pitching wedge shots, just trying to get consistent ball striking and tempo. I was trying to work on ball position, posture, staying steady over the ball...and it was still a disaster! Many shots were dead-right shanks, many topped, very few solid hits. Very discouraging.
Any suggestions as to where to start to rebuild a never very wonderful but never this bad swing?
I'm very discourageed and would certainly appreciate ideas. I live over 100 miles from my nearest teaching professional, so an immediate swing transplant is out.

Hey Larry..cheer up man..its never as bad as it seems..your mechanics are just off thats all.Go back to the range and take your 7 iron and just start out chipping..then start making a few long distance bump and runs with it..just getting familiar to the feel again. Then progress to some fullish 7 iron shots..not trying to hit it hard or kill it just trying to make good contact.Usually when you start hitting it like you are ..from my experiences its because from lack of shoulder and hip turn..you probably are just trying to arm swing it..gotta get the body working again with the swing. You'll get it back-David

Well, even though the wind is now about 30 mph, I went to the range again, used a 7 iron, started with chips, etc...MUCH better than yesterday. I believe that most of the guys on the Champions Tour are still safe, but I don't have to quit the game. Thanks for the help.
