Is the idea of golf swing motion similar to the baseball swing?? I mean using hips shoulders and arms and wrists? I am asking this maybe stoopid question cos i am very comfotable with holding my golf club and performing baseball swing with it, when I do that I fell the power from my hips and body.. but I cant do it in normal golf swing..

Re: golf swing vs baseball swing
Simular yes, but in a vague sense. You are more up right in a base ball swing, and the foot work is different. In golf, you are bent over at the waist more, and you rise up on the big toe of the rear foot, while keeping your lead foot some what planted. In base ball, you turn more on the ball of the rear foot, while also turning on the heel portion of the lead foot. And of course in base ball the rear arm is bent at the elbow more, which can be done in golf but becomes more of a lever action type golf swing. There are two schools of thought about praticing the golf swing with a bat. Some say with out club head, the swing release is wrong, some say with the added weight of bat you build strength , and flexibility faster. Me I have been swinging (golf) a bat for years, and have no problems when I get a golf club in my hands. ...GJS

Think about hitting a low pitch to the opposite field and I think the swings are similar. Other than, you'll probably be slicing the ball a lot.

Re: golf swing vs baseball swing
I find that playing baseball is a great way to ruin a good golf swing. There are many similarities, but many differences. Biggest difference? The golf ball is stationary. You can concentrate on storing your power and releasing at one percise moment. Baseball you are trying to time when the ball will reach the plate and if it is going to break in a certain direction. Will it be high or low in the strike zone? Is the pitch coming inside or on the outside of the plate. There is a lot of reaction and more swatting at the ball. Also, direction isn't improtant, as long as it goes between the foul lines.

When I "try to hit to the opposite field" as you stated, it goes straight-ish.

Re: golf swing vs baseball swing
For those more familiar with cricket parlance, the golf swing is very much playing across the line. A very fine cricketer I know took up golf and has developed a lovely, willowy, Vijay-ish swing. Unfortunaltey most of his shots are pushes as he's trying to hit cover drives for a ball outside of off-stump.

Re: golf swing vs baseball swing
Actually, I teach hitting at a baseball academy and we, in a way, based our swing off of a golf swing. Our owner and a few of his teaching friends sat down and looked at videos of baseball and golf swings side by side. What they found was that the hips are very similar and , although the hands have a different motion, they end in the same spot.so we teach the kids tohave a finishing position, lower body wise, similar to that of golf. the hands are different. He has had trmendous results over the years using this method. Actually some of the drills I teach with, I can apply to my golf game. I started there in Jan. and I recently realized I am able to analyize my swing som much better and from a different point of view. So, yes there are similar in many ways, but different in many ways.

Re: golf swing vs baseball swing
Well im in the camp that thinks for a lot of people swinging a baseball is a good tool for swinging the club and the key word here is swinging
If you put a baseball in people's hands and throw a ball at them, they tend to swing it with loose hands and arms and around to the left in order to maximise distance, They wouldnt for a moment think about wrist cock, hip turn, right elbows etc etc as the ball was coming towards them
If you applied the same motion on a different plane with the same 'swing' thought and lack of mechanical mumbo-jumbo in the head as you prepared to swing, most people would start swinging nicely through the ball and hitting it pretty well. Because the ball is stationary however, all that stuff creeps in and overpowers the swinging sensation
