  • Hooking to the left!

Can someone give me a tip or 2 on what I may be doing wrong.
I'm hooking consistently to the left from both the tee and the fairway. As many as 60/70% of my shots hook left.

    Rhodea,

Are the hooks a snap hook, starts left goes left, or a delay hook starts straight goes left?

They generally start straight and take a curve to the left.

        rhodea,

Have a friend look at your setup from the rear. The first thing to check is if your alignment is not closed. It's easier to have someone else check your alignment. Let me know if it is open, closed or square.

          Hook

There are several reasons for a hook

          lets start with the fundamentals

          Grip
          Alignment
          Ball Position
Grip If your hands are rotated too far clockwise (to the right) the face will tend to be closed at impact

Alignment If you are aligned right of the target you will tend to swing along an inside to out path

Ball Position If the ball is more towards the middle of your stance
(just slightly behind your sternum) you will tend to close the face at impact

Golfers that hook tend to have excessive arm, and hand rotation

In order to stop hooking hit a slice

Your hand position on the club determines the face angle through out the swing

If you have manipulated the face angle during the swing (this is normally done within the first 3-5 feet of the backswing)you will make a compensatory move on the way down, and most certainly at impact

In order to stop hooking lets travel to the other side of the spectrum

Alignment Turn your both of your hands to the left about an inch or so. this will promote an open clubface at impact, then aim left of the target

once you hit some balls with this grip, and your new alignment the ball will start to fade becuase your path will be outside to inside with an open clubface

After you have successfully accomplished this turn your hands an inch to the right so they are more neutral.

Here is an effective way to find the right way to hold on to a golf club

While your at home or on the practice facility, bend from the waist , then flex your knees, and let your arms hang comfortably in front of your
body notice how your hands naturally look this is what they should look like while holding on to a golf club

now combine both hands without manipulating either of them hold for a
          few seconds

          FEEL IT

now take a golf club, and go through the same process

Ball Position move the ball so it is line with your sternum, which is where your shirt logo is located normally.

          Write back with your success
