  • Greg Norman's, "The Secret"

Just received "The Secret" yesterday, and have not hit balls with it yet. From just putting it on, and holding a club in the house, it appears that:

    1. It forces your right hand into the position that
Greg's "right had drill" talks about, and

    2. It would be difficult hitting balls with it on as it would hinder your release.

Has anyone out there used this device, and if so what is your opinion?

I have the Secret and I have hit balls with it on. Personally, I found it very helpful. I am very much a "feel" player as opposed to a technical player. That said, I really did not over analyze the feedback that this device produced. I simply put it on and proceeded to hit pure iron shots. I agree with you in regards to your comparison to Greg's RH drill (which has really helped me), it forces you to maintain the angle of your RH without breaking down. For me - this produced effortless power. I believe it promotes muscle memory and get's us in the proper position. So, to conclude my long winded-response, this gadget gets a "thumbs up" from me.

The best training device of them all. Worth ten times the price. It awakens you to a feeling that is not easily aquired but is necessary to hit great shots. I don't know why they discontinued it.

I use it everytime I go to the driving range to re-inforce the feeling. If you want to hit great shots, buy it and use it.

I think they discontinued it because it feels like you are going to rip off your finger every time you do your setup.

What would be really cool would be a latch type system that would click it into a cupped position on the backswing. Would be a lot more money.

I agree that it is a cool little device that does help get a feel for what to do....

Theologic's comments about the "Secret" are well taken. I, personally don't find the secret uncomfortable but I can see how some people might. I think the key to the whole thing is to keep your wrist relaxed and don't fight it, like Greg Norman says in the accompanying video.

If you don't like the secret, there are alternatives.

There was an article in Golf Digest several years ago that describes using a spatula (the cooking utensil) for the same excercise. You just tape (or use velcro, or whatever) the spatula to the back of your hand so that the cooking side rest against the back of your right hand. Now you can set up to the ball in a more normal fashion. They when you take the club back make sure the back of your hand is touching the back of the spatula. This maintains the angle in the right hand. This holds true for the downswing too.

Presto, you have a version of "The Secret" for a couple of bucks and it won't "hurt your finger".

would you not put it on the back of your left hand to stop swatting?
It would be easier to have something preventing you from releasing than trying to keep your right hand touching something else
the only problem is it might totally prevent a release on the left hand.

Isnt there another device that makes a clicking noise at the time of release and the point is to time the click to impact?

I have found that if I try something new and it is uncomfortable, I probably should implement it.

I hit 40 of 50 chip shots of about 20 yards (Pelz style) yesterday. I could feel the difference. I know my wrist postion has been wrong in the past, so it will take time. I could feel my wrist trying to break down (downswing), so it must be helping. If so, it's WELL worth the 20 bucks.

                I didn't find it usefull.

Like I said in another post, when I put the Secret on, the plastic bit presses hard against the elastic part and it bulges outwards.

                  Re: Greg Norman's, "The Secret"

And this is becase you are probably not putting your wrist in the "Secret's" required position.

Just a note here, not all methods are for everyone. If you are not comfortable with a new idea, and honestly tried what the new way is trying to address, then don't do that method. There are no rules. Just what makes it right for you...(sounds like a commercial).

Unforunately the Secret didn't work for me but it's clearly worked for a few people on here so it must have it's merits !

I think I use the correct wrist action anyway.

for those who have a problem attaining this position i would look at your set up. If your left wrist is not flat with your forearm, then that will encourage your right wrist to cock and cup in the backswing instead of just cup. Try this, without a club cock your right wrist and from there cup it. Now dont cock the right wrst but just cup it.
