that as soon as you start taking the club back, I mean in the first inch or two, that it is going to be a bad swing?

Re: do you ever get that feeling
yes. I think its called negative thinking. I know this, it plagues me. I am trying to learn to have positive thoughts in both the swing and on the course. You need to do this to get a regular game going. I have often played rubbish on the course from this kind of mental torture and as soon as I go back to the range with a different mind set I hit the ball as I want to. This is what we need to do to give us the game we want. Hope this helps.

Originally posted by rockrobinoffI am not so sure this is such a bad thing. In fact, it might be your subconcious telling you something about your posture, your setup, maybe your ball position, and that if you can stop your swing, do so, and start over with your pre shot routine.

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.
I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.
For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.
Re: do you ever get that feeling
I know what you're talking about. For me, though, it happens in transition. I feel really confident in my setup (and won't take the club back until I feel good). What happens is at transition, sometimes I try to 'crush it', and bump my hip away from target.
Then I proceed to chunk the ball. The problem is that it's not until I've hit that I realise what I've done...

At the same time, sometimes you just ground the club and you can see the entire swing and you know it will be a great shot. On those, I hit quickly before the feeling passes....haha.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. For me its about having a pre shot routine. always getting into your setup the same way and a swing thought to concentrate on. Then a few looks at the target, a waggle and then pull the trigger
This is all shots inc chips and putts
Sometimes I will forget to do one of these things (usually just being lazy or forgetful) and something just doesnt feel 'right' as i start back

Re: do you ever get that feeling
Yep, had one of those today.
I played a fast par3 9 holes late this afternoon while my wife was taking her clinic (anyone else have a wife or GF playing?)
120 yd, 8i...I felt something odd on my take away, on top I thought to stop but didn't and damned if I didn't wiff the ball.
I've noticed the last week I've been pushing and slicing a few of my iron shots this following some serious push/slicing of my driver, so I was practicing an antislice wrist postion in my swing.
Too many thoughts, spent far too much time addressing the ball and thinking. Decided to grip it and rip it. Never felt so many buttery feels in sequence before. Overshot a cpl of greens by 10-15 yrs tho.
Might have been that I took my MacGregor 1025C out? I've been waiting to see if I had game enough for them before scratching up the soles with with this Florida sandy soil. I been hitting fat alot while dialing in my new slower tempo swing.Last edited by westcoast941; 04-27-2006, 05:11 AM.

Re: do you ever get that feeling
Good post alright. I think from this post everyone gets this feeling. For me it is about half way back, and on my follow through I'm already regretting going through with the shot! I think if you feel it at set up then you can back away but its almost impossible to do mid swing. Hardest thing for me is to walk up to the next shot and not think about what I did wrong! I think you just have to go through your routine and hit it, no analysing on the course!
