After much trial and mostly error, I had almost concluded that I will never hit my irons again (6-lw) with a full swing. My driver, fairway woods, and hybrids (4i and 5i) perform fairly well, but my irons have gone beserk--topping, wicked slices, smothered pulls. If it could be bad, it would be very bad. It didn't use to be that way, but it is now.
Anyway, I played a round on Tuesday, taking full swings with only woods and hybrids, using my irons for varying pitches and chips. Not fun. I noticed on a drive late in the round, though, what may be my problem with my irons. It seemed as though my left wrist had broken forward and I smothered my drive.
I think my whole problem comes down to the left wrist. If I allow the clubhead to outrace my hands, my left wrist breaks and any hope of decent contact goes with it. I think I get away with it with my woods and hybrids, but it bites me with the irons.
All of this recounting just to ask the following:
1. Does this make sense--that is, that failing to have a firm left wrist at impact is the cause of my contact issues?
2. How do you keep your left wrist firm?
Many thanks,
Bill
