  • closed stance?

decided against playing 18 holes today 1) because the weather was unpredictable and 2) saturdays round was soul destroying.so i decided going to the range would be a better bet! the rain had cleared up when i got there so i set up on the grass part of the range. i decided to really concentrate on set up and pre shot routine and low and behold im hitting every shot sweet. i save the last 20 balls for the driver and its the same old story fade/slice/fade so i draw my back foot back to no avail and then i set up square and put my front foot forward 2 inches and hit straight drives from then on.
is it acceptable to set up like this for driver or am i courting trouble further on down the line!

not sure what you mean by saying you move your front foot forward. Is the stance closed, square, or open?

          Hi slats,
I find that a straight back takeaway gives me straight drives. I recently started experimenting with an inside take away but it only introduced a slice. Try tilting your right shoulder to the ground(spine angle) and this will encourage hitting the ball on the up.

          Regards,
          Robert.

Sometimes like now when I feel old and the swing is too lifty and helping, I like to place the right foot back at the heel of the left foot and just take small swings with a driver, then, once everthing feels ok, I will gradally move the feet more and more until I am square.
It teaches me that I need to slow down to hit far, gain balance rather than speed, produce rhythm rather than muscle, and most of all, enjoy my swing.
Hope some of you can relate to this and please avoid getting too analytical, its a swing killer. Just know what you have and work with it.
From someone who grew up with the game and still plays to a 1 hdcp. at 60 today, if you love golf, then you are my friend.
Please respond and I will answer.
Did you ever notice that when you take a longer club than what you need and swing easy. it goes much further, well that's what the swing is all about.
Copy that and you are Bobby Jones.\

                hi tj,
                thank you for your response,
i have tried the back foot drawn back from square drill and it still doesnt work but placing the lead foot forward 2 inches does! i know in essence they are both creating a closed stance.
i attended a cobra demo last week and eventually ordered a mspeed 3 wood which i could hit 220-240 without even thinking about it.
so the driver going to gather some dust this year!

Lets not get weird now, you are left handed or what, I am in England at least 4 months out of the year and could arrange a lesson but what you are describing is stupid and I would never bother with it or you.
You must get with the program and set up proper to gain any respect or dignity.
I will email you when I plan to get to liverpool this summer but it will cost you big time, just kidding, eh, bud.
