    Re: Shoulder Turn?

    spanky,
this cupping does not open the club face at all and you cup the right wrist untill you cannot cup no more and from there you push with the heel pad of the left hand. You should see how easy it is to chip when all you do is cup on the backswing and rotate the body on the forward swing. I can teach this chipping technique in about 1 minute. Have you ever heard of Ben Doyle. people talk about the body alot, the mind of the golf swing is in the hands. When I learned that I started hitting it much better.

        Re: Shoulder Turn?

I've seen some female pro golfers do this. Basically they go to takeaway position, right wrist fully cupped, then they just turn the shoulders back - and that's their backswing! Some make it so obvious that they break the backswing into these 2 part literally. I think for intermediate beginners this is probably the best way to build the swing.

Simon, why would it be the best way for beginners to build it and not good players? you say you see female pros do it

            Re: Shoulder Turn?

            Hi shootin,

I was referring to the 2-part backswing, which I am (or rather was, eversince I got your reply heh) sure advanced players would not want to stick to. I also stated it's probably good for intermediate beginners because absolute beginners would probably be struggling with a lot of other issues like grip, posture, etc. Perhaps my mistake was to wrongly categorise myself as an intermediate beginner, and I am precisely working on this 2-part backswing and finding good results with it :P

Frankly I'm quite surprised to see some female pros doing that, as I thought they would surely have moved on to combine the two parts into one smooth fluid part instead. I'm sure there is a reason for that which I am unaware of, and would appreciate any info on that.

            Thanks!

ok, I misunderstood you. You were talking abotu two seperate movements with somewhat of a pause in between. I do not pause but still have the two parts that blend into one motion. Simon, it sounds as if you are learning, I am coming out with another post and be ready to learn some more

                  Re: Shoulder Turn?

I posted this in "The Secret" thread in error, so if anyone reads it twice, forgive me. I got infused.---------------------

I hit balls today on the range working on my shoulder turn. I have always had a problem with not finishing my swing, and also I feel like I swat at the ball (which is what happens if one does not maintain the cup in the right wrist. I had a lesson a few months ago, and the pro told me that if I got thru the ball (finish my swing), that would cure the "Swat".

Today I worked on a full shoulder turn, as well as the coil with the torso. I found that when I coiled and ROTATED, not tilt, my shoulders, wonderful things happened.
                  1. I did not come over the top, and pull my shots, which has also been a problem.
                  2. I got thru the ball a LOT better.
                  3. I did not feel like I was swatting.
                  4. The ball went a hell of a lot farther and straighter.

HARd to believe that coiling and rotating ones shoulders would have that much effect. Now, if I can just remember to do that on the course maybe the water on #16 will stop attracting my balls.
