In doing the right hand drill, I notice that I feel noticeable strain that goes from the right wrist all the way back up behind the right shoulder when I take the club back in this locked position. (There is no pain mind you) My question is, for someone who is not used to holding the angle for so long, is this what I should feel in the full swing as well if I have properly held the angle?

Re: Question for Greg....and everyone else
Yes, this can be new feelings. Tension is going to make it worse, so try as best you can to be relaxed in these positions. Any new change in any sport is going to cause new muscles to be used, so they will be tires and not have the same stamina as the old ones. So be sure you give proper rest and streaching before and after workouts.

Re: Question for Greg....and everyone else
So I should be able to hit full shots with this right hand in a locked position?
I gues I am just trying to figure out what to do with my hands as they pass the hips on the backswing, because it seems to be greatly restricted.
Am I cocking my wrists incorrectly in the backswing?
See if this helps?

Re: Question for Greg....and everyone else
Impact is a flip. Look at the position of your right wrist: this is the opposite of the "Cupped" position, I would call this "Flipped".Attached Files

Agreed, but how do I get into this position to begin with, I don't feel like I can hit a full shot with the RHD. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Question for Greg....and everyone else
Probably yes.
Can you first put your right wrist in the "Cocked back possition" and setup? You should see the left arm and the club shaft as 1 straight line now.
If so, now move your hands at that address position Up and Down only...no hips, shoulders or arms yet?
If so, imagine killing a bug that just crawled under your club? Pound that club straight down!
Now you feel the correct "Release". See how the right hand can stay "cupped"?
Keep it cupped, and now rotate back (shoulders to max, hips to about 1/2 and the arms will go for a ride), then let the hands raise the club UP like you did at address and your arms will go up with them.
Ok, you are at the top. Start with the hips uncoiling, that takes the shoulders with them. Rotate the shoulders, and that will drop the arms. Let the arms drop and the hands will "release" like they did killing that bug.
Ignore all you urges to repeat you previous 100,000 swings in your life to try to square the face with your hands. Let your Hips fully rotate through, the shoulders rotate around and THAT will square the face.
Let me know is this helps.

Re: Question for Greg....and everyone else
Ok, I am quickly becoming a Greg disciple.
The one thing I really notice is at impact your shoulders are still paralell with you target line. This is one of the main reasons you are having to cast the club down, as this is the only way to attempt to square the clubface up. You are going to have to work on getting the shoulders point more at a 45 to MORE angle at impact.
I know this is tough to work on, as I am struggling with this myself but I am convinced after talking with several HIGH quality players this week that maintaining this angle and getting more shoulders/hips more open at impact is the RIGHT WAY TO GO.
Good luck.

Re: Question for Greg....and everyone else
I have tried this in the past months and was able to feel and see that pure contact that it creates, but only with 1/2 swings. I felt so restricted with full shots that I thought I was doing something wrong so I kind of forgot it and reverted back to my old swing. The feeling I have to get used to is the cupping of the right wrist. I thought I was doing it, but now I think I was just cocking the right wrist.
I think the answer to my question may have been answered however. In the swing video I submitted, I have a flying right elbow (I think). I have noticed today that on my backswing if I keep that elbow in (very hard for me), I get the same sensation in my wrist and right shoulder as the RHD gives me. Also, when I check my position at the top, sure enough the right wrist is cupped and the left hand is much flatter. Does anyone concur with this?
If I have a 6 handicap with a flawed swing, there is no telling how much better I could be if I can get this down. Wow!

By the way, this website is a God send! It has really helped me become a student of the swing and a student of my own swing. Thanks to all!

Interestingly, no. The golf Machine was not known to me while I developed this method. But have read about it and it is very similar in some areas. The right forarm being the hinge that my right wrists is using being one difference. I don't fight the forarm issue, because the difference is slight and individualized in comparison.

Dude, that was a long time ago...1992. You know the saying..."Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach."
