My guess would be, set up and posture. YOU CANT PLAY WELL WITH A BAD SET UP AND ALLINGMENT!
while I agree that set up is VERY VERY VERY important, in this hypothetical we assume that the person has a good set up

By virtue of elimnation, if Shootin4par says it's part of your swing process, you're ready to swing, but it happens before you start, I reckon it's "letting go". The math is done. You're lined up. Just let it go man.

              Can I have £10 instead?!

are you talking about the pre-shot routine? that is extremely important because it gets you "in the zone" you visualize the flight path, get aligned a little club waggle to stay loose.... then let er rip.

it is kinda of the effect of people bowing in karate,(clearing your mind of all things but this next fight) lets all your excess thought of where not to hit it and the water on the left and you last three put... puts that all behind you and gets you comfterble and in the zone to hit the perfect shot.

if you looked at your post you could have narrowed it down to one, THE WAGGLE, congratulations on being the first one to mention this. Now the real question becomes is why do I say this can be a golden nugget?

let me ask you this, in all your golfing time, do you think you will

A have more swings then waggle
                          or
B have more total waggles then swings

yea, it had to be teh waggle or the pre-routine, kinda narrowed it down a bit. However...... I disagree with you. I have discovered lateley that the looser you can get the hands the much longer you can hit it. I broke my driver after figuring this out... so I don't know my logest distance, but I can hit my 3 wood off the deck about 260yds with my new discovery. I grip the club soooo loosely that I can't even waggle the club, it is too heavy to waggle I am so loose. I can't even lift the club up, I have to use my shoulders turning back to get the club up for my back swing. and my temp is painfully slow too. But man can I crush the ball! but that is just what works for me.

And that is relaxation. As is the waggle (loosening the wrists, relaxing the arms). There are other ways too. Mike Weir and De Marco for example. Or breathing out. You can send me the $10 via PayPal
