Speed of Swing

I am having serious problems with trying to murder every shot I play. I know it doesn't work, yet I can't seem to stop it.
Worse playing with a strong wind.

I went through this problem about a year ago and at the time it was causing all sorts of problems with my tempo and timing...Here's what i did.

If you have access to a driving range, take your seven iron and try to hit it half your normal distance but with the same swing. This will lead to a much more controlled and relaxed swing. Once you have developed a feel for this you can go back to hitting your normal distance for that club and you will deffinately notice an improvement with your timing and tempo and because you will be making a better contact at impact you will notice that you are reaching the same , if not MORE , distance but with much less effort.
