I have been working on a new shoulder turn recently and it has given me bags more of power but at the expense of consistensy. I need help making my swing plane much more upright, with this new turn my arms seem to become rapped around my body causing a very flat swing plane. I dont want to stop making this turn as I know if I can keep it but fix this problem I'll be a much better player than I was prior to making the changes. Any suggestions on how to keep the arms from rapping around my body and giving me this realy flat swing?

Re: Massively flat swing plane
As your swing reaches halfway ( left arm pararell to floor ) , the butt end of the club should be pointing somewhere between your feet and the ball, but more toward the ball and make sure your follow through mirrors this position. This will deffinately keep you swing more on plane...Good Luck

Re: Massively flat swing plane
Sam: when you use the shoulder turn and inadvertently get it too flat..what kind of shot does it produce..a hook?I too rotate the shoulders to start the backswing..as well as rotating them all the way to the top..and i too get a little flat sometimes resulting in a hook. When i can keep it just above the plane line though it gets "spanked" straight and long down the middle.I was working on trying to get it a little more upright this evening when i got home from work.Have you tried the suggestion of more spine angle yet?Just wondering if it might work.Seems to me if i can start it all STRAIGHT BACK from the ball for a couple or 3 inches instead of letting the clubhead start curving in immediately from the ball(like it wants to from the shoulder turn)..its just upright enough to murder it straight down the middle. But it aint easy.

Re: Massively flat swing plane
go to a mirror and try the simpliflied back swing I posted, look at your positions, and if it gets you where you want then try that out.
ALso, if you have no right elbow bend at address the right elbow will not fold soon enough in the back swing, keeping it low, and if the right arm stays low, the swing stays flatLast edited by shootin4par; 05-16-2006, 03:24 AM.

Re: Massively flat swing plane
Having shot 57 for 9 holes a few weeks ago, some 10 shots over my handicap I was on the verge of despair. After trying a few of your suggestions however and in particular the one telling me to hold my spine angle at address through out the swing I have already noticed a steady improvement. I have yet to get out on the course but have struck many shots in my net in the back garden and I can tell you with confidence that the strike is certainly a lot purer. I 've also checked my position at the top in a mirror as suggested and have changed my body movements as to find the position I want. Can't wait to get out on the course, thanks a lot everyone.

Re: Massively flat swing plane
Hi Samburk,
I think you need to try the bench drill. I used to have a flat swing and it worked well for me. The bench drill is where you have a bench in front of you and it keeps you on plane.
Also a good idea is to shorten your swing because you probably across the line at the top.
Hope these drills work well for you,
Liam,

Re: Massively flat swing plane
i used to have a flat swing plane as well, i think your left arm should be at least perpendicular to your shoulders at the top of the swing. i just praticed looking in a mirror and stretching my arm up past my soulder a high as it can go to get used to that feeling. then just try to emulate that feeling in your backswing of your arm going up your body. thats what workded for me.
