  • Arms collapse at impact! - Flipping the club.

I have a constant problem of letting my arms collapse at impact which then makes me flip the club instead of keeping my arms together and extending through the ball to the target. Most of my shots are still not bad but not brilliant. When I purposely try to extend to the target, my shots are all over the place! Has any body got any ideas/suggestions??

    Thanks

    Lee.

your impact position is incorrect and very weak.
Your left wrist should be flat and your right wrist should be bent at impact.
your left wrist is collapsing at impactand your right wrist is straightening out.
this scooping action is an open clubface so the ball is shooting into the air and there is a massive loss in distance.
hit some chips making sure that your left wrist is not breaking down.
If you do this off of a downhill slope it will speed the learning process if you dont keep your left wrist flat wrist then you will blade the ball.
Play the ball a little behind your back foot to ensure a descending blow into the ballThe wrist position is crucial in generating maximum distance and clubface angle. The most common mistake caused by weak wrists is the collapsing or breaking down of the lead wrist at impact. This dramatically reduces distance and accuracy. If you discuss this with your teaching pro he will tell you the same thing.

you might want to consider working with an impact bag to promote flat left wrist at impact.

If I have my left wrist flat at impact, does this flat wrist position continue all the way through the shot or does it break down just after the hit. When I have tried to do this on the odd occasion, I tend to push the shots straight right. Have I got the ball position too far back in my stance as I tend to play with ball in the middle.

        Thanks

          hi lee.
At impact your hands should be ahead of the club face. Now, if you are a right handed player, at impact your right hand would be cupped and the back of your left hand should be facing the target . From here you just release the club head into the follow through. the follow through is just a mirror image of your back swing. Try to swing to a full and balanced finish.
Your ball position sounds fine for mid irons.
Woods ,move the ball up in your stance, just inside your left heel.

let know how you get on. regards ......terry

The left wrist stays flat but rotates over in a counterclockwise fashion. It as if you had some change in your left hand that you were passing to somebody to the left of you. You would need to open up your palm to them to give them the change as the left elbow folds up. If your left elbow disconnects from your left side, it prevents or blocks the rotation of the left arm, hence you block your shots to the right. To get a better feel for this, place your right hand over your left bicep, then swing the club back and through. You should feel the left elbow fold up.

I believe everyone realize the falt left wrist is good for good ball striking. The reason why left wrist collapse is due to something else. I believe it is because of arm swinging. If your lower body don't turn properly hands move on its own and wrist break down. I have that problem.

I hit straight. Little arc. I hit 7 iron 135 yards. I don't think my wrist break down. But i am not sure. As i can't see it or feel it with my fast swing.

May be i can video tape my siwngs and analyze to see what is happening.

But i feel i might throw club little and adjust my golf club on its way.

Good golfer hit the golf ball with turn not with arms. I am working on it. I need more feed back to correct my golf swing.

I thought of using my laptop to capture my swing and correct it in the range. Any web camera can catch the high speed golf swing?

                Let me know.

                Thanks

i would work on the RHD and the impact drill from this site
                  http://members.cox.net/gregjwillis/LESSON3.htm

                  and read this
                  http://www.golf-tuition-online.com/w...u-s-again.html

i explain about a bend right arm at impact..... not sure without seeing your swing, but i used to think of the right arm being extended at impact which makes keeping the cup imposible and makes you use your hands.
