  • Hybrid ball position

Anyone have a suggestion on where the ball position should be for a 27 deg hybrid wood 5 iron? Is the position the same as a fairway wood near the left foot or the iron somewhere nearer the middle of the stance?

for my hybrid i usualy have it on the front foot as i find the ball flight is best there. but it should be at the same place as your would hit a 5 iron as doogkie said

        Re: Hybrid ball position

I usually place the ball at my front foot just infront of my left heel, then I make sure my hands are in front of the club and take the club straight back and straight through, works for me and worth a try.

Doogkie is spot on. Play the ball one ball up from centre. This is not a sweeping club , so , unless you are going for extra height there is absolutely no to need to play the ball off the front , or near the front foot.

            Re: Hybrid ball position

Interesting input and confusing, considering I've just ordered a 19 degree TM dual hybrid. I had been playing the demo from the front like a fairway wood.

I suppose the question is - is the hybrid a wood or an iron?

So what is it fellas, swing the club with a sweep or with a hit down motion?

              Re: Hybrid ball position

Hmmmm, I have been playing woods, hybrids and irons with ball positon at left foot 1/3 in front and right foot 2/3 behind. Which definitely positions the ball more than one ball in front of center. Maybe that is why I tend to pull my iron and hybrid shots?? Maybe not. I'll check it today.

Since the hybrid is a one to one replacement for the iron it seems to me that it is more of an iron than a wood. But then how do you take the wood out of an iron when after all it is designed to be both. Sheeeeez, I just love this game ..

                Hi Beefer,

If it is the same deg as a 5 iron put it where you would put a five iron.

                Liam,

My cousin (8 h/cap), swears by his hybrids. He chucked away his 5 and 4 iron and is adamant that a sweeping motion is the way with these clubs. Personally, I think its whatever you are comfortable with.

                    Re: Hybrid ball position

Wow, lots of good insight. One thing for thought is that, at least mine are, the hybrids have a longer shaft than the equivalent irons. Does this make a difference in ball position?

You should play your hybrids just like you play your irons. They are built the same length as one another

I made this adjustment today hitting my irons and hybrids from the position you suggested above. It made a considerable positive difference. I had been positioning the ball a little further forward and the slight back adjustment helped a lot. Thanx

Played my 3 wood a little more toward the front foot (not off the heel) though and got great results.

                          Hi Beefer,

I don't think it makes any difference.

At one point I was hitting it great like an iron, hitting down on it.

Then I started practising teeing off with it, about half an inch off the ground and with a sweeping motion. And now I can't hit down on it :P

                              Hi Simon,

Try teeing it down a little it's a bit too high isn't it.
