Just out of interest, what do people think are the few main keys to maximising distance?

Re: keys to power?
The only main factor to how far your ball goes is mainly down to swing speed.
Simple equation:
Faster swing speed = ball going further
To do this you need to maximize your strength.
Hope this helps

Re: keys to power?
1) Flexibility - A bigger shoulder turn equals more power. I do a lot of lower back work (squats, deadlifts) and ab work along with a ton of stretching. If you have strong, yet flexible hamstrings and glutes you can power your hips through the ball. Don’t forget about the forearms too!
2) Balance – Being flexible will help, but some people just naturally balance better than others. Helps you maintain spine angle and proper weight shift.
3) Timing(Tempo) – This might be the key to everyone’s swing. If you can establish a proper tempo (or as I call it, a proper chain reaction) your swing will sync up and maximum clubhead speed will be reached.

Re: keys to power?
One more thing....
The biggest bombs I have ever hit (biggest being a 370 yard bomb, gps verified and stepped off) have been draws. Whenever I deliver the the clubhead from the inside, I hit it huge. When I come straight on or over the top, it can be a round killing slice into the woods.
My biggest tip for hitting power draws is "stay behind the wall." To do this, pretend that at setup that there is a wall at the ball (make sure your right shoulder is BELOW your left as well, also think about CLOSING your shoulders slightly). You cannot move your head past that wall. It keeps you behind the ball and helps you come from the inside.

Re: keys to power?
relaxation.... very key. not only does it increase lag and accuaracy but distance too. the looser the arms and hands are the faster and more freely your hand release the club and the looser your hands are the less chance you have of casting or releasing too early which in turn heps accuarcy.
they next biggest key i think is "rotational power" that is not swating at the ball with hand and letting the body fully rotate and let the right hand to stay fully cupped through impact. for a more clear explanation of rotational power go to the following website
http://members.cox.net/gregjwillis/LESSON1.htm and look at the impact drill as well

Re: keys to power?
Im not as flexible as I could be. I am tall and lean, but not very flexible. I do have to keep a strong/light grip and keep my tempo in check.
I just came back from hitting balls. For me, its all about 3 things to bomb the ball....
1) Weight tranfer - Get that weight off the left foot.
2) Seperation - create a gap on the backswing between my shoulders and hips.
3) Tempo - I cannot let my hands lead the swing. Must start the downswing with my left foot/left leg/left hip. From there, ease into it, dont try to accelerate from the top.

Re: keys to power?
Originally posted by shootin4parI would not think about that article too much or put too much stock into it. There are four things in the golf swing that generate power. Hold the club straight out in front of you and rotate your body, that is one, hold it out in front again and cock and uncock the wrist, that is two, straight out in front and rotate left forearm, that is three. out in front of you and pull right arm back and push it forward, that is four. Number four can be taken care of by centrifigul force or by consciously pushing, depends on your swing type. The hands do not generate power at all, the closest thing too it is wrists cocking/uncocking, but that is not the hands now is it
thoose three make sense, but i have never heard of rotating of the arm as a source of power.... you have anything more on that?
i think what they ment about hand action is the fact that the looser you are the more freely and faster your hands can cock and uncock. because it does mentions about being loose.

Re: keys to power?
which arm one are you talking about? if you are talking about the right arm straightening, that is what hogan meant by he wished he had three right hands and also that his right hand was his speed hand. If you are talking about the left fore arm rotating all you have to do is stand, hold club in left hand only, cock the left wrist, now just rotate the left forearm and watch the club go side to side

Re: keys to power?
It ironical because you are supposed to hold the club loosely, but grip strength is a huge source of power. I can almost guarantee you will not find any baseball player or tour golfer without very strong forearms and grip strength. Keep squeezing that rubber ball.
