  • I have found the X

I have been working with many tips from here, greg, shooting par etc and my instructor and with a combination of all and posting a few vids for comments , i have finally found a groove that works on the range off grass and on the course with at least 80% results. my consisitancy has jumped from 15%. Mind you it took 105rounds of golf since Jan 2006 and about 20hours a week on the range.

It would take a long time to explain what i was doing wrong, like over the top out to in, coming up on backswing(straight right knee) cupping left wrist , not cupping right wrist etc etc etc.

the major thing for me was simply to start my down swing by un flexing left knee which opened my hips and started the uncoil which pulled my arms down. Also shorten my back right elbow in, swing keeping right knee flex and making sure i got left elbow in through impact for a solid release.

SIMPLY IF YOU WANT 50% MORE POWER WITH LESS EFFORT AFTER GOOD COIL BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE STRAIGHTEN THAT LEFT KNEE ( first move on way down,so start with both knees flexed)WHILE MAINTAINING FLEX IN RIGHT AND CLUB WILL FALL IN SLOT. yOU WILL NOTICE THAT YOU RIGHT KNEE WILL KICK IN WHEN YOU DO THIS AND HIPS WILL OPEN, THEN ARMS WILL DROP IN GIVING YOU THAT LAG BETWEEN HIPS SHOULDERS THEN ARMS, WITH AN IMPACT POSITION THAT WILL SHOW YOUR RIGHT FOOT COMING UP ON THE TOE. THIS GIVES YOU THAT STIFF LEFT LEG TO TURN AROUND.

its amazing the difference, my club pro saw me hit a 5 iron shot and asked me to hit another, which i did, 200, he said i have made a dramatic change since he saw me 3 weeks ago.

I will try and get my wife to video me tomorrow so i can post old swattt and new swing.

    i like swinging

correct you are, just as Jack says

"Big legs are the source of power. I've been asked how the legs contribute to power, because they aren't touching the club. The answer is, sturdy legs give you stability, which in turn allows you to swing your arms faster." Jack Nicklaus

Well done Eurocop. Great to hear. Goes back a little to a thread I started about how guys make improvements. Same happened for me. After plenty hard work and effort, you hit a shot that felt effortless and went ' what was that!! ' then when you string a few together you realise what you've been doing wrong all this time . Its like someone hasn't told you something all this time lol. But, and there's always a but, there will always be improving to be done, so stick with it, even when things turn bad for a few weeks, but enjoy your 'swing' now well done.

          shootinforpar,
yes the set up is a very important part, in the sense that if you are not in a good posture etc it upsets the balance, but keeping it simple you should just feel stable while over the ball, that if someone pushed you from any angle you wouldnt fall over, chin up all tha basics, i am sure you have heard a hundred times.
I found by using soft knees and then stiffening that left leg as a key to starting the downswing first with pitch shots and then build up to full swings. at first it will feel that you are straightening the left leg and then swinging( like it wont connect at first), but start slowly and then build and the timing will come in where it feels like you are snapping in to the downswing.
Do it slowly first with no club by just using your hands palms facing each other as if you where swinging, look at your hips and notice that straightenning left knee and keeping right flexed moves the hips open and lags the shoulders and in turn arms. Remember to be coiled first in your posture then just straighten left knee and notice how it pulls you towards target. Magic Mate, pure magic...

let me know how you get on

I like your description of weight at address. many people think of an athletic position but the challenge in that is an athletic position, like a short stop, has you too much on the balls of your feet, your description is centered/balanced

what do you mean by "let me know how you get on"

              One Question?
Don't You Coming Outside In Shifting You Left Knee Prior To Downswing?

how u get on, meaning if u use that move and see how it goes.

to the other post by, shifting your knee it incourages your hips to open and also has amoton pulling you left shoulder down andout to the right and your arms down. like normal swing just control your elbows dont allow chicken wing to happen.

                      Euro.
Yesterday I Use You Idea Of Shift The Left Knee Prior To The Downswing My Holy Good! I Hit All The Fairways In Regulation
My Shoot Was Soooo Straight Down The Fairways!!
But... In Order To Shift My Left Knee I Make A Short And Shallow Swing So Im Loose Distance I May Said 15 To 20 Yards
I Will Keep Working In Getting Use To.

Re: I have found the X

Not to throw a monkey wrench into this, but anatomically speaking, if you're VERY FIRST move from the top is to throw your hips open (or straighten that left leg), that's going to throw the club to the outside, causing and outside-in swing path. Try it. Pause at the top, and only straighten your left leg. The club goes to the outside, right?

You must be doing something more that you may not realize. There may be a weight shift first or the left knee moving towards the target, or you may be manually dropping your hands into the slot.

Congrats, regardless, but I'm just a little confused...I do think the swing thought is helpful, but not as the very first move down.

Re: I have found the X

That is exactly what should happen. One of the keys to having this happen is distance between BOTH knees remaining constant until the top of the backswing. If you bring your left knee in too much on the backswing, you over rotate your hips and reverse pivot. It is then impossible to shift back out to the left.

My pro tells me the 1st move I should make is straightening the left leg. That will drop my right shoulder and elbow into the slot and drop my head BACK instead of forward. From there, just rotate :-)

                          Nice post!

at the top of my swing what i do is my left knee i throw torch the ball
so it make sense im not outsidein path!!!!!

I can't remember who made the comment about pushing your left hip out at a 45 degree angle, which is basically rotating your left hip BACK and that will straighten your left leg.

The key is to rotate the hips, NOT the upper body. Create seperation.
