While I was trying out a new driver at the local golf shop the pro pointed out that I had a really strong right hand grip. I knew this and had sort of 'worked around it' with my game and felt comfortable with it, always playing with a slight draw because of it and bad shots being a hook. He got me to try a 'normal' grip, overlapping(previous was interlocking). Since then I have been to the range to get used to it and am getting better with it but stiil tend to be hitting a high slice more often than not. He did also point out that my previous grip was de-lofting the club and I tended to have my hands ahead of the ball.....and breathe!!! A bit long winded for a first post but my point/question is do i persevere(he did say I probably would struggle to improve with my old grip) and has anyone got any tips/drills to help me get used to the new way and hit it straighter!!!

Re: New Grip
read the drill on leaning the shaft. that is good if your hands are ahead of the ball at impact. your hands should return to neutral by there selfs unless you change something in the swing path so you have gotten used to that change and now you have to unlearn it sinse you changed you grip. i do like the overlapping alot more because it puts my right hand in a less active role in the swing. your club face should be parrelell with your left forearm at the top of the backswing. you are probly used to it being closed so try to make the club face parrellel at the top and that should help it square at impact.
i also agree with shooting that your first move in you backswing should be the right hand cup and that helps prevent me from rotation my wrist which sets my face square and parrelel to left forearm at the top.
