    Re: Total loss of swing

    Robert,

One of the best pieces of advice I ever recieved, was regarding this very same subject.

Go to the range and stand with your feet together and take 3/4 swings. This will help you regain the proper balance. You will HAVE TO swing with "proper feel" or fall over. I once read Jack Nicolas say that ones balance was the framework for every good and every bad swing.

Whenever I get into trouble, I do this and amazingly realize that what I thought was good balance (and weight transfer) with a normal stance, was exposed doing this drill. I'll try this for an entire practice session, before going back to a normal stance.

    It works!!!

Remember though that its a good idea to also work the actual grass with this drill. Mats are just to forgiving.

Friend of mine had the same problem. Have a look at your swingpath with these short irons. I bet it is not on plane. Either to flat or from the outside.

        Thanks Collie,
I am also now using the tempo rhythm in my head at adress. Example: Say to yourself "Ernie" on the upswing, "Ells" on the downswing.Itmakesyou stop at the top and come downwithout too much speed. Isn't this a great game for discussion!!!

          Re: Total loss of swing

          hi robert

i have just come through my worst period since starting this great game.
I was shooting mid 80's to low 90's and then my game fell apart. I lost all my confidence, my timing etc and was shooting 100- 110.

Now, with the great support i have had from all my new friends on this site and penty of patience, practice and perseverence , i am now shooting back in the low-mid 80's.

you WILL come through your bad patch and you will emerge a better player than you were before.....

          good luck pal Terry

            Re: Total loss of swing

Robert:when i start hitting the ugly shots it can almost always be attributed to a lack of shoulder turn or a lack of shoulder turn to the top of my backswing. When this happens the arms take over and wreck the shot.It seems its easier for me to get into this funk with the shorter irons.Try a full shoulder turn with that wedge and see if that helps.David

              Re: Total loss of swing

when my swing goes south is is usually because of tension. just one bad shot (if i forgot about that shot and moved on i would probly be fine) but i end up trying harder and get more tension and the shot is worse and it is a donward spiral. that is why most people do real bad after they have just had a great day. they hit it so far they think there strenth hit the ball that far, and they try too hard and there swing goes to ****. i do it myself sometimes, i know tension is bad, but it is so hard not to swing hard to get the ball to go far, because our mind tells us that the harder we swing the farther it will go. gofl is a game of opposites

Great advice and so true. I have followed rounds of 83 with rounds of 96 because of this same reason....pressing.

It's all about the tempo! ...but it's so easy to forget isnt it?
