  • Trigger for Backswing

    Hello All;

    I have a question concerning the start of the backswing. It seems the concensus is that the one piece take-away (triangle formed by shoulders & arms) is a good movement. I am more concerned with the action of the right hip. I have read some interesting information on moving the right hip laterally about one or two inches to the right (for righties) during or slightly before taking the one piece unit away from the ball.

    When I experimented with this it really seemd to allow me to do 3 things correctly. 1) Get the weight into my right side 2) stay connected at the start of the take-away 3) get some lower body motion into the start of my swing. ***I will note that this hip move was just a slight bump and not a sway. I tried to keep the weight inside my right foot.

    There is another school of thought that the right hip should only turn and not move laterally. I believe this is how I've been starting the backswing not really even considering the motion of the hips during the take-away. My backswing had really been coming inside and I was trying to figure a way to get some lateral movement into the backswing to combat this drastic inside move.

    Anyone out there have any ideas on this?

    Thanks and anyone else out there missing Tiger......

      I hate sway. HATE IT! Leads to all sorts of problems. Even 2 inches. I stay low and go slow. I do not load the wrists until my hands have passed my right leg.

      Sometimes with my shorter irons I load a bit quicker. But I dont rush it.

      However, some laterial movemen works for some people.

      I use SLIGHT laterial movement to start my downswing. I bump my left hip left to get things going.

        am am partials to shootins cup then cock. i can still have as wide as anyone swing at the top with anearly wrist set. i think it is a myth the early hand action leads to non wide swing. as long as your hands are as far away from your head at the top i don't care how you get there.
