  • Swaying...ughhhhhhhhhhh

OK....since I could not convert a .ASF to .WMV format...I took snapshots of my video-ed swing....maybe u can help with that too...

Been playing golf for about 9 years with a two year hiatus.....just picked it up again...took a lesson about a month ago...BIG culprit....SWAYING and poor weight transfer. When I don't think about it I sway.....versus having a "solid" base....

    Frame 1:

    Frame 2:

Frame 2.5 - right before impact

    Frame 3

    Frame 4:

    Bottom line......How do I stop swayingggggggg.....ughhh!!!!!

    Thanks

one drill i heard is to put a ball under the outside of your ight foot. that helps ou keep your weight on the inside and not sway.

so just make sure you never let your weight get on teh outside of your right foot, and turn back with your hips, don't sway

another thin gi just noticed in your frame 3..... you should be at impact in the 3rd frame where your hand and body is at, it you kept that postion there and cupped your right wrist back, that would be a good impact position if you had more hip rotation. (which you kind of have to have to have right hand cupped at impact. will give you great power and accuarcy

      http://members.cox.net/gregjwillis/LESSON1.htm

that and the impact drill should really help you with that..... your club is way too far in front of your hands.

you want your right hand to be cupped at impact

search hand shake drill in post to see what cupping is and cocking

maybe others see it and I did not look close enough, but is there swaying in that swing you posted anyone see it?

your bigger issue is flipping the right wrist into impact. You need to search for some post on cupping and cocking of the right wrist,

your right on the wrist, but i think i see swaying in frame 2. it looks like his hip is just a bit to far over hs right leg and i don't see and knee flex either.

I see what you are talking about but it just does not seem like a big issue looking at the pictures, maybe a video would show it a little more pronounced

i completly agree.... the biggest issue is the club WAY ahead of the hands.

if you work on keeping the right hand cupped at impact you should get at least 60 more yds on driver..... all cupping allows you to do it use your whole body rotation power at impact as you will see in gregs video as opposed to just 1/3 of it with the swatting that you are doing. it just lets you completely uncoil before inpact as opposed to halfway uncouling and hitting th ball with your hands (HUGE power leak)

                  Re: Swaying...ughhhhhhhhhhh

one thing that helped me keep my cup at impact was knowing that it is ok/ good to have the right arm bent at impact in order to keep the cup. i thought it was supposed to be strait toget more power..... but you are not hitting it with your right, it is merly a guide..... see the bent right arm in the imapct drill

loose hands and arms should help with that too. your only too loose when you have thrown the club out of your hands

if you are going to punch through a wall woudl you want your right elbow bent or straight at impact with the wall? The right elbow straightening thrrough the ball is a BIG source of power, whether or not it happens by centrifigul force or by consciously pushing the right arm straight

Look bact at my original post...I added a frame 2.5 right before impact...I don't think I had my right hand "cupped".... I got a lot of work to do!!!

Look at the tuft of grass in the background. Small sway.

                          I'll agree with that.

Greg's drill (I think it's been linked to) where you swing with your feet together is a great drill for feeling the turn vs. the sway.

I had real problems with a sway, causing chunks, slices and pushes. The local USGTF guy came by, had me feeling a turn vs a sway, and I've been doing better and better every round.

you are right about that, but ( for me anyways) if i think about it straitening through impact i will pull it, and if i think about straitening it at or after imapact my brain releases it at the right time and i am good. but weather your brian tells you too or not, i have never seen a PGA pro with a strait arm a milimeter before impact. and differnt things click for different people (that is what is so great about this website) there is noone that is always right and perfect for people so different views from different people can help them see something and try something that works for them.

for me it was being ok to have a bent right arm at impact so i was just sharing that

being aware of that also helped me keep it loose through out the swing

i don't focus on keeping it bent... i focus on keeping it relaxed

understanding the importance of a bent right arm is a HUGE revelation because once that right arm is straight guess what is the next thing to straighten? the cup of the right/rear wrist. so now that you have that figured out, on understanding the concepts of the golf swing you can check that one off the list . so now what is next
