  • disconnection on backswing

I had my swing filmed and anylyzed by a "pro" the other day and he said I had a disconnected backswing.....

he said I turn my shoulders independantly from my arms and the shoulder get a full turn, but after they are done turning then i raise my arms back into position.

though at the top of my swing he compared me to Justin Rose and he said I look good at the top, and my downswing is nice too.

a have a backswing similar to furyk and i noticed he seems disconnected as i am, but i also know he is not one of the "big hitters".

so is disconnecting on the backswing is a power leak, is he right?

    Re: disconnection on backswing

i have seen quite often that if the club is parallel to the ground and toe up at the 3rd parallel [ downswing ] it is not to important how it gets there, other golfers opinions on this would be welcome.

"IDEALLY" you would want the arms and shoulders to stop turning/getting to the top, close to the same time. I would have to see it though to give my full/best opinion

        Face on view

you see his shoulders stop turning when his arms are parrelel with ground and then he jsut swing his arms to the top of the swing untill his club is parrelel to the ground. mine is similar

I think that's the two-plane swing in its most extreme! :P

It's amazing how he can still keep his left wrist flat (looking at his old swing).

Notice how close to the body Furyk's hands are at set-up and impact. Although he disconnects during the backswing he definitely brings it back home at impact. Not super long but one of the games straightest ball strikers.
