  • my swing video, please critique

Ok, until recently I was striking my irons great. Never really could hit my woods, but was satisfied with my irons. Then one day my swing magically disappeared and was replaced with a swing where I kind of "jump" at impact thus, forcing my ball to the right and short. I dont know if I am chicken winging or what but this is ridiculus.

    Comments please.

          Hi JC,

Ok you have a lot to work on, I suggest you seek out a good pro and get some basics down, before looking at you swing.

Your demere is one of someone who expects a poor result,

First, Set-up, Try to get a more athletic look with BOTH knees flexed and the club a little further away from your body, look at the still of your set-up you are too close to the ball, you need about a hands width from you crutch to the butt of the club.

Secondly The backswing is a little inside but all in all it's quite good, a great lenth of swing, not much can go wrong once you work on your funtimentals and make a much more solid base to work from.

Third Just look after impact your weight is on your back foot, if you were to punch someone like that you would fail, practice throwing a right hand punch, weight moves forward and your arm swing around your body, a good thing to work on is holding the club up high at the finish.

You struggle with all the above because your base is not solid therfore out of balance, work on this first with a pro if possible just to get you started on the right track. You have the making of a good player with a naturally short powerful swing, but to achieve this you need to work on the basics.

          Good Luck

          Ian.

            Ian,

Thanks so much for the reply. I was beginning to think no one was going to look at my swing.

What I have learned from your advice is to set up more balanced and finish with my weight forward.

The past couple of weeks I have given up on the follow through. I feel pretty good with the backswing and down swing but at impact I feel very awkward. This all started when I began taking the club back VERY slow.

Thanks again for your help. I plan on taking a lesson or two over the next month and Ill post another swing video.

I'd agree with Ian. You do a great job on the downswing, a good body rotation back through, shallowing the plane and coming from the inside so youve already got one of the hardest parts sorted

I would try standing just a little further from the ball with a wide stance and some knee flex. Give your shoulders and arms a little more room. Takeaway is a little inside and armsy and you get across the line at the top a bit so you'd probably have to work on taking the club away a bit wider and steeper by using your shoulders to turn the triangle

All in all I dont think youre very far away from having a decent swing there. A few lessons and some setup pointers and (hopefully) bingo!
