  • what are the feeling during downswing?

ok people. What feeling you have during downswing?. What are the pointers before you start downswing?. anything?

I see every one have different swing in pga tour. it looks like pga tour players throw the club at last minute during impact. A kind of...club head travels long distance hands moves few inches. How this is happening?. I don't agree with people who says there is no hand involved during downswing. Every one have different level of hand action.

if you have low trajectory , then tell me. Because that is what i am missing.

    thanks. i appreciate it.

Everytime i thought i fixed my swing, something else breaks. Too many loose joints including my brain. hahaha.

    Alex,

The simple answer to this is nothing, why.! because it's to late all your work should be in your set up and maybe a little on the backswing once you can achieve a good backswing you put yourself into a great position to hit the ball. I would be very suprised to find a good player who thinks anything, perhapes a sub-concious hit committed or hard etc.

I understand that you are looking for an answer, but my thoughts are if you have to think on the way down you haven't thought enough on the way back, besides any thoughts on the downswing with lead to controlling the clubhead......................disaster will closely follow.

    Hope this is an insite.

    Ian.

Re: what are the feeling during downswing?

      i like to have one swing thought, a simple one. one that helps me from time to time is one i read somewhere ;

your hands, arms, shoulders are in a race, they must all reach winning line together, hands ( not wrists, no casting) have the furthest to travel so they should have a head start followed by arms.

forget shoulders, they cruise to winning line without any effort. sometimes i just think of keeping transition from backswing to throughswing smooth and trust.

as a golfer that can shoot 80 one day and 95 the next please dont put too much emphasis on me, but theres my tuppence worth.

The feeling I have on downswing could be interpreted into language something like this: "Oh s##t I wonder where it's going this time ..."

The only thing you can control in the downswing is the initial sequencing of the downswing. My thought is that the downswing should be initiated with the lower body.

I believe there is some step during downswing. i have to find out.

It is mainly with left hand cupping. you have to do before impact.

Re: what are the feeling during downswing?

This is quite a new feeling for me, so would appreciate the more experienced players' feedback as well. Downswing feel for me now is literally to get the clubhead down, mainly by uncocking the right wrist. (I think this can be found in Greg's right hand drill). Preciously I used to concentrate too much on hitting forward at the ball, but now it's just literally DOWNswing with the arms, with the body rotation preceding that providing the forward motion.

                Simon

I would have thought actively trying to uncock the wrists would be the wrong way to go. Let the weight shift and rotation uncock them for you and trust that this will happen when your hands are level with or forward of the ball. Key on not moving the clubhead from the top, but moving your lower body. Let the left hip pull the left arm which pulls the clubhead and keep those wrists and hands passive

Re: what are the feeling during downswing?

The pro's do *not* throw the club before impact.
With the correct setup/cup/wrist cock and grip pressure the clubhead will be released due to the laws of physics and speedup into the ball.
Trying to manually do it will lead to disaster.

Re: what are the feeling during downswing?

Thanks pnearn I'm not exactly sure whether I'm deliberately uncocking the right wrist, or it's just a feeling that it does uncock in order for the clubhead to return to the ball. I'll take note of that when I next get to the range. But for sure I'm trying to feel less forward and more downward in my downswing, and it can be quite a huge difference in feeling compared to when I was trying to hit the ball instead.
