  • Going from Mats to Grass screwed up my swing - HELP

I've been hitting on a mat in my garage for a long time now, and just recently even took a golf lesson on the mats. I feel like my swing is really good as I hit it amazing off the mats, but the last few trips to the range have been 75 percent bad shots, hitting it fat or just a crazy slice. Any idea what the main problem is ? I have a golf trip in two weeks so I have to get it back to normal right away!

By the way, my drives are perfect still, and my short game from 20 yards in, if that helps tell you my swing problems.

    Any advice would be appreciated!!

Mats produce a straight and pure shot when hit with irons. There is a bounce and slide that you do not get in grass. So you groove a swing that is not viable in grass.

To fix, increase your angle of attack in grass. Take a divot after the ball. Mats allow the divot to happen before and still give you a positive result. Grass HAS to have the ball hit first.

      Hi
I suffred with this many years ago but it is very easily remedied. Because , like Greg said , on mats you get a bounce before the ball and still are able to hit it straight, when u convert to playing on grass just move the ball back an inch in your stance, this way your iron will strike the ball and then the grass , leaving you with a nice divot after the ball.

remember to swing smoothly through the ball and not at the ball.
