  • Ball position question. Need HELP !

I have a question. Can ball position be deceiving? Can it look like it's in the center of your stance, but in reality it's toward the front? I've been hitting shots on the toe for 4 months!! This is after a lay-off. When I move it back, I usually make solid contact, but it's most ALWAYS blocked. When I adjust this back toward target, I feel like I'm way left of target. Is this mental? Am I that &$#*!@ BLIND? I'd rather feel way left than blocked. I have same pre-shot routine (get my line from behind, set up, swing away). I take it back down the line; return from inside to back quadrant of ball. I usually get straight, fade or slice (according to which club I hit). All on toe. Am I the only one in the world with this problem? Should I do what Slater recommended (take two weeks off; then quit for good)? Real funny!! (?) I'm 18 hcp. 90 is avg. day; 85 goes in the paper (just kidding)! Can anyone help me?

    Thanks

yes, your eyes can decieve you very well
    do this
take to club and put one on your target line, put the other at 90* and put the ball 2 inches off the butt end of that one, this will make it easier to get the feel of where it is

Re: Ball position question. Need HELP !

Thanks shootn, I am still having trouble with ball position. I've been practicing with a Refiner lately. I can make a good swing with it, and even hit balls with it. Unfortunately, all of them are thin and on the toe. It DOES not break down until the finish of my follow through (usually hits my shoulder).

I've transerred this to my regular clubs, and it works great; I just keep hitting on the toe. I'm positive the ball is too far forward. When I adjust it, I feel blocked. I've been in a slump for 3-4 months. Any advice?

A line from method 2. on ball position - As the clubs get longer from here the ball position moves slightly nearer to opposite the left heel approximately 1/4" each per club.

Anyone that can place a ball in their stance within a 1/4" of where they want it, have Lasers for eyes. I simply do not believe it possible. Why 1/4" per club, when each club is about 1" longer? IF it is possible, that is where my problem lies. I, like you, tend to get it forward, when I THINK it is in the center. Wish I knew how to work it out.

Thanks for the advice hyper. It seems a never ending problem for me (ball position). I hit some balls this pm and I am less than satisfied. I can't come off the tee. Irons are 50/50. Off the tee, most of the time I just "graze" it off the toe. Very discouraging. I used to could hit it in the screws. I didn't know a lay-off would be such a set back.

Lefty I too had the same problem and after seeking help from a pro...
never move the ball position on a normal shot never mind witch club you use. I hit all balls off the forward foot. just inside the heal. sounds weird but this really helped me. driver to the 60 lw. The pro said its hard enough to adjust your spine angle for each club, why would you want to try to adjust your body to striking at a different point as-well.

Like Golfmonkey I use a single ball position, a little inside the heel, but as Greg H says it is really down to personal preference.

Logic suggests with the ball position fixed you need a little wider stance for each club but I simplify things by just having two widths for my feet. For 8I and shorter I have a fairly narrow stance and for 7-5 I just move a little wider (4I & 3I - what are they? ).

Anything more precise would just give me more "clutter" to worry about - which is the last thing I need.
