  • Push to th right

    Hi all,

Would anybody have any sugesstions as to why every iron is a push to the right. Even around the fringes with short chips the ball just takes off to the right. I never had this problem up to recently an d have checked everything from posture to grip etc. My set up never let me down and i am full sure it is something in the hands that I can not see. Replies appreciated

    Re: Push to th right

I suffered from a push a while back Rob. I went for a lesson and was told the following. A push is because youre swing is too inside out and you are swinging too much to the right. My pro had me work on three things which fixed it instantly

    1. Make sure your shoulders are level at address and youre right shoulder isnt too low - leaning too far away from the ball

    2. Make sure you keep you head behind the ball at the transition - i.e. dont slide the upper body ahead of the ball as you start down

    3. Make sure you keep the right side working through impact. Your right side/shoulder should keep driving through after impact so you finish with it over the left toe. I had a tendecy to hang back on my right side. Will feel like you are going to hit way left but you wont if you dont use hand action in the release, just trust it

      Robert:
I would look to your grip and how your clubface looks at address; whatever happens at address, happens at impact.
Move your right hand to the right more so the palm is at least facing the target, then experiment by moving it further right and further right, you should notice nice little draws, then harder draws and you will really feel the right hand driving through the ball.

an old nick price tip helped my chipping a lot; usual slightly open set up weight left etc then show 4 knuckles on the left hand[r.handers] with club face at target. The quality of strike improved for me right away and accuracy improved a lot too. Hope that helps Khun David

          Re: Push to th right

          Hi Robert

A push to the right is due to an open club-face at impact. There may be a number of reasons why this is happening, here are some to look for:

You are not rotating your forearms through the shot.

          Your grip is too weak.

Your hands are moving too far away from your body on the downswing forcing you to cut outside-in.

Fanning the club-face open on your back swing.

          Hope this helps
          Brian

            hi robert,

Maybe it is that you are slightly open with your hands at the top. Or maybe it is just a lack of confidence just keep everything the same and just hit it.

            Liam,

              Re: Push to th right

Sounds like Club Face allingment. If you are even pushing chip shots JEEZE that has to be club face allingment!

Get a club and set up with the club agaisnt a square edge, like a skirten board or something and that will give you a square face at set up, if that looks ab normal to you then you must be setting up too the ball with an open clubface!

              Cheers
              Ricky
