If I could "Drive" could Play!!

I was a high 70s low 80s player 1 1/2 years ago. Just quit playing...I was single...the country club dues got higher...bla bla bla...now I have started back playing about a month and a half ago...fiance heard about the pool and said she would pay the dues!!! But thats beside the point, I am finding my irons pretty quick, and my putting and chippping is improving. I just can't hit mant drives in the fairway.
I keep hitting these terrible fades with huge tails..when I try to tighten my grip I hook the hell out of the ball! What am I doing wrong?
