Re: Hit a drive 300+ yards today

    Hi pinyo8.

Some very valied and sound points there.

I wander if the majority of people realise, that if you can hit a ball reasonable straight for 150 yards, there is no reason why you can't par most par 3's, par or bogey most par 4's and par or bogey most par 5,s. just by using a 7 iron ,PW, SW( for bunkers ) and a putter. If you can produce similar scores as above you will be shooting in the low 80,s.

    TRY IT FOR YOURSELF.

Re: Hit a drive 300+ yards today

your not a super long hitter?! I have hit two 260+ drives in my last round. I have only done this a few times cos I focus on being a straight hitter rather than long and in the rough.

I consider 270 plus yards to be a massive drive. 250 is more than average for me and alot of the other low handicap players I regularly play with.

I think when people put these stats on the site there shoud be more info such as were you hitting the ball down a tarmac runway to hit it 300 yards? Seriously, people should give conditions, strong wind behind? down hill roll? rock hard fairways? Did the ball land on the fairway - it is stange most of the claims to long drives don't mention where the ball finished!

Sorry this is not aimed at any individual just a general comment that us mere morals may start getting a complex at hitting below or near to the average PGA tour player distances!

        good point aftort.

I played a course a few days ago and played a driver off the second, I nver found the ball though it was just off he fairway!

We let a guy through who said they were the hardest two holes in the county. He took a mid iron off the tee. I put down a second ball once he had gone, played a 5i to the stream and another to the green and two putted. I woud have parred if it had been my first shot

My mistake was not knowing the course (first round) and not taking considering the hole layout and pros and cons of a good/bad drive. Is a 40 yard second staking a driver in cimparison to two safe 5is?

Good scoring comes down to good course management and knowing when it is safe to bring out the driver and when you must have those few yards to give you a real benefit.

Re: Hit a drive 300+ yards today

300 yard drives are fine and great, and I do hit them regularly being in Colorado. However, hitting approach shots within 10 feet of the jar is what gets my golf ego afloat. Being that this is a 300+ yard drive thread, congratulations to all accomplishing this feat.

My longest is at a course in Greeley, Colorado. 545 yard par 5, slightly downhill. I was playing in a company golf tournament back in the early 90s and after my drive on this hole (the long drive hole to boot), I was 148 yards to the pin. That makes my longest drive 397 yards with a 1954 MacGregor M85W Driver (standard loft & bulge and roll, 43" Dynamic Gold X100) and a Titleist Tour Balata golf ball!

Yes, my partner and I made eagle. Actually, I made it because the drive was mine, the PW approach to around 10 feet was mine and the putt was mine.

          Ahhhhh, those were the days.
