  • Need quick cure to shots that shoot off to the left, by this weekend!!!

I am leaving on a trip to Pinehurst on Friday morning, and I currently have screwed up my swing pretty bad. My drives are still really good, and I'm not worried about the short game, say, 50 yards in.

My irons though, I have no confidence. I seem to be either hitting them ok maybe 1 out of 3 shots, but the others shoot of to the far right, like a super slice, not that high in the air. I just can't get the face square regularly. I taped myself and saw that I was standing up a little bit at the start of my swing which I'm working on correcting, but I'm a guy that's played for 15 years and normally hits it ok. Now I shank a ton! I need a quick fix. I don't take much of a divot either, so thats a little about my swing.

Help, golf trip in 3 days!!!!

I have had similar problems in the past, so heres some of my fixes that worked'
For standing up on swing, this is usually on the backswing which is due to not maintaining spine angle due to straightening of right knee. Fix this by starting backswing by slightly pushing right knee towards left as a swing trigger, this was a Gary Player move which works well for a lot of people, similar to a forward press but with the knee. Make sure you maintain your right knee flex on back swing.

For shanks , hitting off hossel, severe slice etc. Usually a cobination of standing too close to the ball, out to in swing, open club face.

If you are too close to ball, you will prob come back on heels in back swing and then come over top to get club back to ball. try to feel like weight is more on toes(which will prob be more on balls of feet correct )it will feel like you are reaching for ball at first, and drool check just to test hand position. (if dribbling spit would fall on hands,Greg tip ) make sure to keep swing thoughts simple and just make sure you swing through to full finish with good balance and hold finish everytime, if balance is off tmpo may need slowing down, ONE AND TWO, A B C etc etc what ever works fo you.

Check your grip, I like the right hand to be a little more to the right facing the target or more which will close the clubface at impact alot easier for you.
Also, try driving the butt end of the club down the ball target line on downswing, this will have you staying down and through the shot instead of pulling up and out like you are probably doing.
These two things should take care of your problems.

Forget it. There are no quick fixes in golf. Sometimes it's possible to save a round by identifying a fault early enough and cobbling together a remedy.
