  • Push-Fade... HELP PLEASE!!!

I hit an unwanted push-fade about 80% of the time with all clubs accept my wedges and putter. I try to compensate for this by aiming further left, but then all of a sudden i hit a straight shot, but to the left! Does anyone have any good drills to use on the range to fix this problem?

    Hi There,

A push fade, I assume you are aware of this shot starts right of the target and then cuts away even further.

There are a few thing that may cause this and it is dufficult to decide which is for you without seeing your swing:

Firstly: Grip check your grip is ok, sometimes a weak left hand leaves the club a little open at impact and although you put a good swing on it, the face will always drift to an open position.

Secondly: Could be a swing fault, usually throwing/sliding the hips forward to early and leaving the arms behind and then the ball is definatley going right, usually straight right.

I would stop aiming further right this just makes thing worse, golf is about opposites, I would firstly check your alinement just to make sure you are square to the target, this is best done at home along the lines of a carpet or something similar, line your feet up and put the ball dead centre, take an 8 iron and set up, if it looks/feels strange, then we are on our way to a better swing.

Then look at your grip, there is a grip section here on the lessons page.

Then try hitting a few balls with everything square and a good grip.....................after a good practice session and you still have the problem then look at the swing.

Let me know how you go on.
